Hello

I need to put my cat on a diet (just had tail removed, and blood came out when he went to the bathroom)

The vet gave us some food which she Guaranteed that he would eat the cat food, due to him being really fussy and only eats whiskers.

He dose not like the cat food we got, and the vet said we can make him rice and chicken. My question is, what is the recipe for this? is it just boil rice, cook chicken, give it to him? surely there should be more to it?

I've made this for my dogs a couple of times. You might want to verify with your vet what the proportion of rice to chicken would be for a cat. I mix this about 50/50 for the dogs. Cover the chicken in a pot with water and boil until the chicken is tender. The length of time will vary depending on how much chicken you use. Do not add any seasonings at all. Let the chicken cool and chop into fine pieces before you mix it with the rice.

Yes, it's that easy.

Rice & chicken is not a balance diet for a cat or any cats long term. Many cats also can't tolerate grain. If this is just to get your cat to eat that's fine for a meal or two but personally I'd try different cat foods (wet/dry) to see what she likes.

Quite right. I'm assuming your vet told you this is a short-term thing - if not, I'd check out getting a new vet.

The chicken and rice will help calm the tummy and get kitty to eat hopefully, but it isn't a complete and balanced diet as Rone has said.

We are seeing the vet again monday. I am meant to feed him this due to blood in his pooh. After he had his tail removed.

Yeah, i understand what your saying. WE are meant to feed him 5 times per day, about a table spoon full each time.

Absolutely. When I do this for my dogs, it is only for a day or 2, then back to their regular food. This is not the right diet long term.

It isn't for cats, but dogs do fine on it, provided you add vegetables and some oil and a dash of salt. I've had several large dogs live into their mid-teens on a home-cooked diet. Chicken and rice with carrots always seemed to be the favorite dish, but I also used beef, sometimes with some liver thrown in, with noodles and mixed vegetables. My mother's current three senior dogs (the Labs are 9 & almost 14, and the mutt 16) are doing quite well on it, too. Of course, it might be the bagels and cream cheese or buttered toast they eat for breakfast!

My grandfather bred Airedales, and he never fed his dogs commercial food, and with one exception, his dogs all reached 14 or 15, which is really old for that breed.
