So Hubby and I walked in the house after having dinner over at the neighbors house (read In-laws) and we immediately noticed that horrible stench of uncovered poo in the litterbox. I had just cleaned it an hour ago (go figure) so I know that the deposit was very fresh. I am guessing that it was from Marcie but I noticed several things...There was more poo than normal (sometimes she seems to "save" it up for bigger deposits?) and there was just one spot (perhaps the size of a dime) on one of the sections (overshare, I know) that had some clear gelatinous material (probably mucous) with a little bright red blood. The poo was otherwise normal in color and consistency with a bit more stinkiness than usual (but hers are ususally really stinky anyways so it is hard to tell). She has had no other symptoms of anything and this is the first time I have seen this. Her appetite is normal, her activity level is normal, she hasn't vomited or exhibited painful poos (she will poo outside the box if it is painful). Should I really be worried? I think that it is possible since it was a large poo, maybe it could have caused a minor tear in her rectum (can I say that since it is a family site?) Any other theories?

i think you're probably right - bright red means really fresh, unlike the tarry stool that comes from internal bleeding.
i'd keep a close eye on her [& her 'product'] for any repeat occasions, & visit the vet if there is one, if it were me.
