I have a 10-month old spayed female. Up until a few weeks ago, she was free-fed. She is 11.3 pounds. She seems to be maintaining that weight, as it hasn't gone up in a few weeks. But her belly is hanging slightly.

I am now experimenting with a new feeding schedule -- feeding 1/2 cup of dry food per day (Wellness Indoor - not grain free), plus 1/4 can of wet food (5.5 oz can - Nature's Instinct Venison or Rabbit, at night). Adding the wet food more regularly seems to have helped her loose stools. She has been on the Wellness dry for about 6 weeks.

I'm just curious if I am feeding too much, or if the Wellness or the Nature's Instinct is too fatty? She whines a lot when there's no food and acts like she's starving. But I know she's just getting used to this new regimen. I am just worried, because I know how important it is to make sure cats don't become obese. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

That sounds about right- its what we feed (maybe a little more on the canned then you do). Charlie is a solid 11 lbs and Ling is about 10 lbs. They are both spayed/neutered.

The "hang" is typical of most cats - not a sign of a fat cat
