I'm trying to think of a name for our palomino filly (light yellow baby girl horse). It's my job to name the little filly and I would really like a name that means sun or gold.

One other name I'm thinking of is Aurora

I wouldn't mind names that mean morning, light, beauty, something interesting!

German isn't a big help. Gold = Gold, and sun = Sonne. Sun in Hungarian is nap, while gold is arany.

Sunna is an Icelandic girl's name that means sun or sunny. Birta is also a name for a female and means 'bright'

Aurum is latin for Gold, Gull is Icelandic for gold (it's pronounced with almost Gudll there's the welsh type of ll with aspiration so it's not pronounced like the gull part of seagull.)

Pyrite is fools gold so probably not what you're looking for but it's still a rather neat word.

Gold coin?
Gold in Japanese depends on what you mean by gold - several different words where we would just say gold.

Hey I found a celtic goddess who's name was Epona! Apparently it means divine mare. What about that for a name?

Gold in Finnish is Kulta
Sun is Aurinko in Finnish

I also seem to remember that the ancient Egyptians named their sun god Ra

Doesn't one of our TCS members have that as a screen name???

Shayna is pretty in Jewish.
Soleil is sun in French ( pronounced so-LAY)

How about some Native American names. I was noodling around on Ask.com and found a few:

Apawi is sun in the Lahkota language
Neh-zhoni is pretty in Navaho
Ah-ga-lee-ha is sunshine in Cherokee
Dah-loh-nay-gah is golden/yello in Cherokee

Just did a quick search, and it was the thing that came up the most..
I think it sounds kind of nice, and I wasn't quite sure if that was it, hence the "I'm pretty sure"..

the "ll" in welsh names is pronouced "th" theres many places that sound pretty pronounced enlishly (excuse the stupid word
) e.g. Llay i pronounce "lay" the partner pronounces it "thlay"

im stil getting my head round the welsh ways

Enzo if theres any names you dont use for your beauty of a horse can i nick them for my new mice?

Another vote for Sunna. Remember, if the name is too complicated you'll have people going "What? How do you spell that?" and you'll still end up with the wrong name on vet records.

If you don't have it already, and are interested -try a quick search for JWPce. It may be useful if you intend to look stuff up in Japanese or simply need something easy to type in.

Artemis is the Greek Goddess of Light and the Protector of the Vulnerable.

I love horses by the way.
