Tomorrow is Memorial Day.

While everyone is grilling out, spending time with friends and/or family, enjoying a ball game, the outdoors, or spending a quiet day at home take a moment to remember the solemn meaning of the holiday.

Hope everyone has a safe rest of the weekend and a huge thank you top those men and women who have served and protected us, both military and civilian, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

I found a short two minute WWII video tribute set to the them from Band of Brothers. There are a few pictures from Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan towards the end.

Over the river and through the woods...
That is a beautiful tribute. I have so much respect for our veterns and the people serving our country now. A friend of ours came back from Iraq last fall, and some of the stories he tells are unreal...and I know he is censoring it for us. I honestly don't know how they do it. My thanks go out to our military for everything they do for us. God bless them.

My Husbands Nephewhas gone over there 2 times so far. The Korean War made my Uncle Crazy. He was on the front lines and saw alot. I have family in Golden Gate Cemetery in San Bruno. I wish I could go over there today and put Flowers but we can not go.

I would like to add my deepest thanks to all the TCS Veterans and Active Duty Troops and their families. Without you and your sacrifices, we would not be. Thank you all!

Every Memorial Day weekend at our church the entire Sunday Morning service is dedicated to Memorial Day. For the past 8 years my Step-father and my Mother have been in charge of it and usually do the speaking that day. This year it was extra special because my Step-father invited his father to speak. He retired as a Command Seargent Major. Now he is in his mid 70's and Pastors a Spanish speaking church near his home. He has a lot of amazing stories and such a deep love for this country. Makes it plain to see where my step-dad got that same deep love. (He's retired military too) I have to say, after being in this family for almost 14 years now, this is begining to be my favorite holiday.

I know you're being ironic, Bruce, but... I hope that nobody is so utterly mindless as to blame those who serve in the military for the often immoral and abusive decisions of their commander in chief. It's a brave choice a person makes to enter military service, knowing that he or she will be expected to follow orders all the way to the point of self-sacrifice, no matter how morally corrupt those orders may be.

I hope you guys don't mind me sharing this picture. We went down to the DFW National Cemetery yesterday to take some flowers for my father... there were reviewing stands set up beyond the lake for the official ceremony that was being held later on, and you can see those in this photo, beyond my father's grave (the larger bouquet is from my mom, and the yellow roses are from me).

What you can't see is the 20,000 other graves blanketing the hills all around, and the giant American flag at half-staff rising above it all.

So many people have given so much to preserve what this country is supposed to stand for. I dearly hope we start standing for it again soon.
