My Rottie does well on Nutro. I like it, and he loves it!

The food is made in "micro-batches" and shipped within 2 or 3 weeks of manufacture.

But you're right that some commercially made pet foods sit on the shelf. Studies have reported some dog food is made 18 months before being sold in a pet store!!!!
On the surface it would appear to be great but for those of us who have done LOTS of research and comparisons it is truely a mid level premium... You have to get research from multiple sources

Hi Jesi,
You can add Protein in larger amounts for the dog for the rapid growth of the muscles, joints and bones. The energy requirements for are considerably higher. It is essential for them to receive food nutritionally rich and calorie dense. You can make dog food at home. I have some good videos and some expert reviews on dog food and nutrition.
Hope you like it.

We have Keno on the Beneful now and she likes it and it seems to be agreeable with her (stool, etc.). We had her on Diamond, but they've recently jacked up the price on that and it seems her coat was drier and shedding more then normal (she's a lab).

So far the shedding is less and her coat feels good. It could be the start of change of season for the less shedding, but for now, the Beneful is working fine.

Also she does get some people food mixed in the dog food. I know there are better foods right now, but honestly can't afford the prices on those big bags. I don't know how owners of more then one large dog can afford the food!

If we had a smaller dog, I'd get the higher quality food, but Keno seems to be doing quite well on it now and she's been eating for for 4-6 weeks and I've noticed the improvement.

I have two large dogs and I have been all over the map with food. I tried Orijen and found it was too high in protein and their coats got very brittle. I was advised to add oil to their diet, but I figured why should I feed an expensive food that needs supplements to work right. I found that Purina Pro-Plan worked really well for both my shepherds, but for some reason that food has recently increased in price dramatically. So now I am feeding Costco's Kirkland brand and my too-skinny young dog is putting on weight nicely. Their coats are nice, they have a lot of energy and their stools are good.

When we had the membership at Costco, we would get the Kirkland food (its made by Diamond). But we don't have that now and had to find another reasonable priced food.

I have a hard time with such nebulous ingredients.
While your food choice may be great, I just can't see myself subjecting my pets to something so vague.

What, exactly, is 'potato product' and 'egg product' anyway?

Not to mention, that by their feeding guidelines, it seems that I'd be feeding almost 4 times as much food daily than I do now, that indicates an abundance of fillers to me.

Cant help as the AFFCO book I accessed did not have potato product... but egg product is cooked eggs a very good and common protein source... think like the hard stuff on the pan from scrambled

It isn't bad, but just the same I've switched to Wellness and I have stopped recommending it as a good value for the money.
Just a general FYI as you showed with one brand ... Many are constantly changing formulas ... I suggest reading the label at least every three months no matter what commercial food you feed
