you can have 3 of each, but if you have 4 of a kind, it won't let you add any more until one grows up.

I want a dragon egg!

If you have 4 hatchlings you can not pick up any eggs! But I time mine out, so normally I can get a new egg everyday!
Its really easy actually, one day Ill grab say 3 eggs, which means I could still pick up abandoned hatchlings and one more egg! Then thee next day Ill pick up a abandoned hatchling and the next day an egg and the day after that the hatchlings will be grown up and time to start again! Since they're spread out I can normally get an egg every single day! Which I love! Today I got the silver and the Dino, yesterday I got the abandoned green one and red hatchling, today my black egg hatched into a hatchling opening up another space!
The general rule of thumb is you can have 4 hatchlings and 4 eggs at the same time, you just wont be able to pick up anymore eggs!

That's never worked for me. A couple weeks ago I had 3 eggs and 1 hatchling and I tried to get another egg but got the "4 is all you can manage" message.
Wow, really? It always lets me keep getting eggs, until I either have four eggs, or four hatchlings.. if I have three hatchlings and under four eggs, it lets me keep going.. until a fourth hatchling comes out, or I get a fourth egg.

i have 3 eggs & a hatchling, too. i'll try for another egg when there is one, & post what happens, just to see...
Natalie - it let me have another egg - so i have 4 eggs now, plus the hatchling.
i don't know why it's giving you that message...

I don't like to post my scroll link because I post at a very busy art site and that's where I've been hatching the eggs. I have a system down that I know when to show and when to hide the eggs and they seem to get an average amount of clicks. If I post the scroll that will be thrown off.
The eggs I currently have are:
split down the middle
devoid of dirt and scratches
gives off a glow (rare egg)
and the one hatchling was surrounded by fog and will be a grey dragon.

well, sounds like it's working for you! so, you have a silver, huh... i ended up w/a 2nd water dragon, 'cause that's the only one that was still available.
oh, well - maybe this one will be a female!
Herumph... The other person who was suppose to be taking my silver egg hasn't showed her face and Ive been waiting for two days, then I look and see that she has 4 eggs that she's just gotten! Meanwhile the egg is starting to hatch and Im just going to keep it, screw it!! I have 3 hatchlings now! YAY!! 2 of them were abandoned and I took them! One will grow up tomarrow, one the day after and the last one the day after that! So they're pretty well spaced and should make it so I can get a new egg today! Although Im not seeing any good eggs today!
My magma/red dragon grew up, and so did my black one! Yay! But my gray hasn't changed. I got two eggs - the blue and plant egg - yesterday and they got soft shell. So I hid them, but they still aren't cured. I got another one today - it's an orange egg. It only has two days left, so please click it!

I have never seen an abandoned hatchling...but I haven't been looking either. I have all I can handle for the moment, until I get back from vacation anyway. After I get back I'm going to start working on boyfriends and girlfriends for the adults I have!
Argh, my blue dragon hatchling (in my signature) is taking forever to mature.. it only has a little over two days left and hasn't even started maturing yet.
I hate when they wait till the last second.
I am happy that my white dragon is maturing though.. hopefully my white egg turns out to be a female since this one is a male.
