The last 4 months since we moved here i've been hating this ugly cupboard the owners left behind for us. When i saw the floor plans for the house it was great, i really thought i had a built in robe in my room. What it really is, is that the built in robe in here, the office, impedes into my bedroom. So instead of a flat back wall, half the wall is normal, then the other half is about half a metre forwards like so ___[___] (i can't find a picture to show you better lol) So we move in and not only do i find this, but they've left the ugly cupboard lined up next to the robe wall, so i have a whole section of wall from end to end about 1/2 a metre deep, completely filled in!

Well 2 days ago, i finally cracked, i pulled out all of my stuff, stuffed it into containers, bags etc, covered my bed (yes i spent hours and hours finding out where on earth to move everything so i could use my bed again! lol) and my father and i took to it with a hammer and pulled it to pieces. This thing was made from heavy wood and was about 8 feet tall. I was very happy to let it end up in the driveway. Now i have my gym equipment in this nice space, and i can now see every inch of wall!!! You know that old 80s or 70s brown wood grain laminate? Yeah, it was one of those.

Is it just me, or do other people take great pleasure in getting rid of these sorts of things?

I would if I could! Our house is so strangely designed -- for some reason, they felt they had to have two separate entrances to the master bedroom.
If we could afford it, I would eliminate the second entrance, expand the main bath into the space it took up, and add one of those nice big oval tubs!

I'd also do away with the formal dining room and expand the kitchen into that space, which would allow me to add a nice little nook next to the front door for a windowseat or a built-in computer desk. And by running the kitchen off sideways, I'd create more space in the breakfast room, which would then be big enough for formal dining as well. Why don't builders think of these things?

Glad you and your dad had fun tearing that thing out!

There's no place like home
I took a sledge hammer to my last kitchen cabinets prior to the remodel. 1972 cabinets that were extremely ugly. That was great fun!

The other thing that was very gratifying was an old sofa at our old house. We bought it used and cheap, and it had become the dog bed. It was really stinky and we threw it out when we moved. Since it was so hard to get inside the house in the first place, we pulled out a sawzal and cut the thing up into little bits and stuffed it into a garbage can.
