does anyone know where I can get a safe heating pad that I can leave on for the kitten. Angel does keep him warm but I am worried about the times that she leaves the nest to eat or go potty etc. he has noone else to snuggle with. they are in my room and I am keeping it as warm as possible but I dont' want to sweat my hubby and I out. LOL I swapped out the old sweatshirt I had in there for a fleece blanket hoping that would hold the heat in some more. But there are times that I am not going to be home for a few hours at a time so the rice sock doesn't help with those times and I don't want to have to go in non stop to heat it up as I want to give Angel her peace and quiet. I found some petheating pads (cozypads) at petsmart but they are only sold online...... I am afraid a human one would get too hot or catch on fire or something.......

Any ideas????/ I can order one online but then it will take a few days if not longer to get here and by then I won't need it as much.......

Like Sun we have to go pick up our puppy and will be gone about 5 hrs if not longer....

I actually just use a normal heating pad for ours with a towel double-layered over it. There are relatively cheap heating pads that have heat level settings, so I'd suggest one of those and set it to medium or so.

would that be safe if we were gone for an extended time? I am more worried about a fire than anything I think. I would think under the blanket it would be safe and not have hot spots......

I have sphynx and have to leave heating pads on almost 24/7. The ones you buy at the pharmacy's are safe and will not catch fire unless you have a warped cord or they are old. They have safety info in them and they pretty much say that can be left on. I usually put mine on low and keep them on all day. They sleep with me at night so everyone stays toasty..

I have two heating pads for my baldies, one small and one a bit larger. They aren't overly hot even on the highest setting. I would use one for your baby with a towel over it, put on low. I also would cover the cord that comes from it so that you have all of your bases covered, ie: chewing of the cord.

Have fun with your cutie....wow, he's a big one alright

You can also use water bottles filled with warm water, under a blanket as a heating pad.

yeah I just needed something that would last a bit longer than that.

ok I weighed him today but only thing I could find was a kitchen scale (didn't think to look at the postage ones) and it goes up by 25G for the gram marks but he was right on the 4 oz mark which is what I thought he weighed yesterday...... But he doesn't meow all the time only when I wake him up and he is hungry then when he is searching for "his" nipple and can't find it. haahaa other than that he is quiet and happy.....

when Firefox was small, i used a regular heating pad, w/a cat bed on top of it. left it on all the time - it did just fine. you can see the bed she's in in this pic - the heating pad was under it [the stuffed kitties were for company].

Just agreeing with everyone else/offering more reassurance -- I just used a regular, bought it at the CVS, person heating pad, with a double layered towel on top of it, set to medium, and I left it running continuously for about 10 days. Never had any problems, and the kittens were always curled up atop it in an adorable cozy little pile.

Anyone thinking about snuggle safe should check out the amazon reviews and elsewhere; seems like they've had some problems with them overheating and catching fire.

My dad (who supposedly hates cats) made a cool little safety upgrade on a basic heating pad he was using for some strays that hung out on his porch. He was worried the cats would bump the control buttons and change the heat setting, so he made a cover for the controls out of 2 plastic cups taped together with duct tape. He cut a little hole in the base of one cup for the cord to pass through and left the heat setting on low so it wouldn't get too hot. When he wanted to turn it off, he just unplugged it. He also taped the rest of the cord to the floor and wall so no one could chew on it. Placed under the bedding he used for blankets, the heating pad kept the box toasty warm.
