I found out last night that my 5 year old Lab Winnie might have Cushings Disease. I had noticed that for a while now, she had been drinking ALOT of water, she would drink a large bowl in one sitting if I let her. She also had seemed kinda stiff latley, so I decided to bring her in for some blood work and a urinalaysis, after the first testing he wanted to wait two weeks to re test her to make sure the test results were consistant. Last night he called me and left a message that he thinks she might have Cushings, and he wants me to bring her in for a 3 hour test, but he wants to talk to me before hand. Im waiting for his call back now.

Anyone experience this before? I read an article last night that kinda worried me. It said its treatable/managable but not curable, and typically once a dog is diagnosed, it usually lives for about 2 years, is this true??

If anyone has an experiance, information, or advice on this please let me know.

Winnie was the first dog I ever got, she is so young, and Im feeling sad.

My dog was just diagnosed with Addison's disease last Thursday. He is also young, 14 months old.

From what I have heard, although they are very different,Cushings and Addison's are closely related. Neither disease is curable but both are very manageable. Dogs with Cushings and Addison's can live normal, long, happy, healthy lives as long as they are treated with with medicine. The dog may also need regular check-ups to make sure his body is still in balance. I can't give you much more info but just hang in there, do lots of research on it and I'm sure your dog will be alright

Also, there is someone that I know of on TCS has a dog with Cushings...maybe she can step in and offer you some more advice

Hi There,

My neighbour has a dachshund that was diagnosed with Cushings disease last spring.  It has been on pills that are costing them over $300/mo.  This is out of reach for most pet owners.

Cushings is related to thyroid disease.  What medications were you giving your dog.  Please let me know as my friend Jeanette would like to correspond with anyone else who has dealt with this problem.
