Feline Pine - how long does it last you?

I have one of the small bags of Feline Pine from Wal-Mart. It's the original kind, not the clumping. (I tried clumping a while ago and didn't care for it, it tracked way too much). I really like that the original Feline Pine doesn't track at all and the scent is great, it's not dusty, etc.

I'm just not used to the whole non-clumping litter thing. I just have been scooping out the poop and shifting it so the dusty parts go to the bottom and the pellets stay on top. Is that the right way to use it?

How long does this stuff last you? It says that the bag is for 4 weeks, but since I have 2 cats using 1 litter box (just temporarily), I'm expecting it to last 2 weeks. Even then....I think I'll only get a week out of this stuff. I'm just wondering if that sounds about right?

Personally, I am not crazy about it for multiple cats. I tried it and at first it was great but I agree with sharky. It smelled like urine pretty quickly.

I used the Feline Pine pellets for years and loved it. I think it is particularly good at eliminating urine odor. Just be sure to put enough pellets in the bottom part of your sifting box to catch any urine that falls through. I've had to switch to a scoopable littler because Jeta has decided she won't poop in the Feline Pine. I'm using World's Best and it definitely doesn't control odor as well as FP.

But, as for your question, I know when I had 2 cats a 20# bag would last 6 weeks. Some would be left after 6 weeks but I would dump it and start with fresh.

It depends on how much you put in the litter pan. I would only cover the bottom of the pan with one extra scoop. When I was using the smaller bags they would last about 2-3 weeks (guessing). I scoop out the pan every other day and shift it, throwing away the sawdust part and adding another scoop or two of pellets as needed.

Right now I'm using the 40 lb bag of wood stove pellets (cost about $4 in the feed/farm stores). That will last a LOT longer

I would like to use Feline Pine for the kittens when I bring them home (after appropriate transition, of course) and I keep seeing everyone make comments about wood stove pellets from feed/farm stores. The price of these sounds fantastic, but I am worried about the oils. I have heard/read that the pine oils can be bad/toxic for cats, and I know for sure that they are removed from Feline Pine, but I don't know about the wood stove pellets. Are they safe?!

I've been using FP for about a month now I guess. I started out using a normal box, and then moved onto a home made sifting box....which didn't sift as well as I thought it would and then the bottom box cracked because I didn't use the right type of bin.
I've gone back to my normal jumbo hooded box, and what I do is I have their old box sitting next to it, then every couple days I use a regular scoop to sift the pellets into the old "holding box" until all I have is sawdust, dump out the sawdust and replace the old pellets...usually adding a couple scoops from my bag. Takes a few extra minutes, but I like using that method, and what I'm really looking for in a litter is odor control and non tracking, both of which this does very well.

Oh! one bag lasted me about a month between the two cats...maybe a little more.

The feed store that I buy from - the pellets don't have oil/chemicals on them - I checked that before I purchased them.

I think I am going to go check out the local feed store, that is a good idea.

Should I be using a special litter pan? I was just using a regular one, the sawdust is at the bottom, there isn't anything I'm really sifting it with?
