I got my cat Marley from a friend who was going to take her to a shelter. They had her for about two years. Her mother had her previously and found her as a stray. They don't think she was ever spayed. I had her now for a little over a year and never noticed any difference in her behaivor or ever saw any blood.
I got a new male (nutered) kitten about three weeks ago. He's about 6 months old now and pretty aggressive. He attacks her every day. I do my best to stop it with a water gun but she's a tough girl and fights back so I have never been worried.
Today, however, I noticed a glob of a dark, sticky substance where she was sitting this am looking out the window. It had some blood it in. She hasn't been overly affectionate or meowing out of the ordinary. I also found another one near the litter box. Is she in heat? I have taken her to the vet twice since I owned her for physicals and her shots and they said they couldn't tell. I just assumed she was spayed since she I never saw blood, she never behaved as if she were in heat and she has a fat belly that hangs down pretty low. I'm concerned that if she's not in heat that something may be wrong. The web sites I read about cats being in heat did not mention blood or any discharge.
She's probably about 5 or 6 years old now. Is that too old to have her spayed? Also, if she is in heat, could this be why my male cat is acting so aggressively towards me and her?
