CHELSEA,MAINE (AP) -- A cat that weathered some of the coldest temperatures of the winter while trapped in a metal culvert is safe at home in the central Maine town of Chelsea.

Jack the cat was gone for seven weeks, and his family figured he'd never be seen again. But on Sunday, Jack's family heard a weak meow. David Logan began digging at a snowbank and Jack popped his head out of the culvert.

The family believes the cat was in the culvert under the driveway on February second when a snowplow left a bank of snow blocking the opening. The cat lost half his body weight, and the
family is nursing him back to health.

The latest escapade means Jack has lost four of his nine lives. Logan says the cat earlier survived being hit by a car and slipping through thin ice twice.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
What an amazing story. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

We care for ferals, and one of "ours" went missing during a snowstorm here (NJ) when we got about 30" of snow. After a day, hubby went traipsing up into the woods to the burrow where the cats were born and dug out the opening and a path back to the condos we built for them. A few hours later - there was Tuxedo - and the pawprints leading down from the burrow. Nothing like what this poor kitty went through! What a survivor!

How amazing and lucky for Jack. That does make me wonder though how long would he have had to suffer for before he died, and of what? exposure or starvation? How tuff are cats. Truly amazing.

Poor Jack! He must have thought he'd never go home again. It's so sad, because they're like babies. They don't understand what's happening. I knew this sounded slightly familiar. It was bad enough for poor Tuxedo (Laurie's cat) to get stuck in the burrow, but this is unbelievable. Thank God he's home and safe. It breaks my heart to think of the poor lamb suffering all that time though. What a miracle!

Right here! :)
The poor thing must have been so afraid and alone. But what a survivor!! And to think that he has had other accidents, he is really experiencing more than most cats!
I can imagine how very happy his family was, to find him alive.
