Last week Buster scratched Holly's head with his long nails. There was a little scratch and it was healing. However, when it started to scab, Holly started to itch it and it got worse and worse. The little nick grew into a large bloody area. I then decided to put an e-collar on her in order to prevent her from touching the area.

Since wearing the e-collar, the area is healing nicely. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take to fully heal? Holly falls into a state of depression while wearing the cone and it makes me so sad. She barely eats and drinks and keeps on walking into things.

Is there anything I can do to heal the area faster? I cleaned it off with water but I didn't know what else to do.

Thank you for your response. Can you suggest an ointment safe for a cat?

triple antibiotic ointment should be ok. my vet prescribed it for my kitten's bacterial skin infection, & also for her eyes.
