Robert Mondavi died today. He was 94. Who said that drinking wine is bad for you? Anyway, he was a pioneer in the CA wine business.
Let's drink a nice glass of wine to him.

Oh that's sad! I visited the Mondavi Winery a couple of years ago. It sure is a beautiful place. They make one of the best Moscato's that I've ever had!

I used to collect wines, and lay down good vintages, mostly French but from the New World too. I don't so much now that I live on my own and don't entertain very much. But the best wine I ever had in my life was a Mondavi Special Reserve Cabernet 1982. I kept the bottle and the case it came in as a souvenir!

So you like Muscat, huh? What versions have you tried?

Moscato D'Oro?

Muskat de mi Tanta Maria?

And you know the Asti Spumante taste-alikes are muskats, too.

I've enjoyed so many different muscat wines, that I've really lost count! Here are the two that I have found to be especially wonderful!

Moscato d' Andrea Muscat Canelli - by Robert Pecota Winery - When I first started to appreciate the muscat wine, this particular wine came in full 750 ml bottles. Now when I've been able to find it at all, it has been bottled in splits. Very, very hard to find in Michigan at all! This is my all time, favorite wine.

Moscato d'Oro - Robert Mondavi Winery - This one was easier to find when I visited California, and is much more difficult to find in Michigan.

Right now, in my refrigerator, I have MonteVina - Terra d'oro Moscato, La Serra - Moscato d'Asti, Bevlamo - Moscato d'Asti, and Engelhaus - Muskat Ottonel Ausbruch....as well as the inexpensive, but tasty, Sutter Home Moscato. I'm just waiting for the right time to open and enjoy!

I really do enjoy most any sweet white wine. German whites are my favorites, especially Spätlese and Auslese. I also enjoy Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese, and Eiswein.
