Captured FARC terrorist documents link US democrats to the Colombian terrorist group. 16 documents were posted this weekend in the Spanich Semana magazine. One of the documents mentions that US Democrats were trying to organize meetings with the FARC

if found to be true, they should never be let of jail for the rest of there life

I read that short blurb and the underlying WSJ article and I'm left scratching my head because there wasn't any detail.....exactly what crimes is McGovern accused of such that he was undermining the Colombian government? Other than bypassing the State Department. If I was being held by terrorists in a foreign country I'd be glad to have the help of anybody who could do anything. Because there have been case after case of the State Dept being absolutely worthless in individual situations like that.

It certainly bears deeper investigation, and if there were illegal activities and or anti-American activities then, yes, they need to be prosecuted, convicted and jailed. But the way things usually work, if any of these individuals are up for reelection, chances are nothing will come out until after.

I would be surprised if anyone wasn't at least trying to get in touch with the group. This group is one of the big problems in northern South America, and they really need to be controlled somehow.

No, the man is trying to come to the aid of AMERICANS held by this terrorist group. Where's our government at this time???? Are American lives less important than a Free Trade Agreement???

I thought that is a standing rule in this county, NO negotiating with terrorists.
The moment you start negotiating and paying ransom on government level, all hell will break loose.

It's probably important to note that it has long been our policy to negotiate with terrorists, from the time of our first Presidents, who negotiated with the Barbary Pirates, to the current administration, who has negotiated with Muammar Qadafi and others of his ilk.

But NOT in a hostage situation.

And NOT on a presidential level. Of course we do through diplomatic channels, sorry, I didn't make that clear.

I'm sure we are talking to Iran, right now, through diplomatic channels, but I do NOT think that Bush or any RATIONAL president would have a sit-down, tete-a-tete, photo-op with terrorists without preconditions like Obama has said he will. That is just wrong on so many levels and proves the inexperience and weakness of the man. I abhor appeasement, it does nothing but embolden the enemy.
