I agree 100% with this statement. There are a lot more problems in this world than gay marriage.
The bible doesn't clearly say anything! Everything has been interpreted over and over, and not only that but even if it did say "God thinks that gay relationships are an abomination", why should that be followed when so many other "laws" such aren't? Here's some pearlers:
"Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." [I Timothy 2:11-12]
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Ephesians 5:22-24)
"Everything in the waters that has not fins and scales is an abomination to you; of their flesh you shall not eat." (Lev. 11:11-12)
"When a woman has regular discharge from her body, she shall be unclean for seven days and whoever touches her shall be unclean." (Lev. 15:19)
Or what about these things in the Bible that are supposedly ok?
"Next we headed for the land of Bashan, where King Og and his army attacked us at Edrei. But the LORD told me, 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have given you victory over Og and his army, giving you his entire land. Treat him just as you treated King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.' So the LORD our God handed King Og and all his people over to us, and we killed them all.
We conquered all sixty of his towns, the entire Argob region in his kingdom of Bashan. These were all fortified cities with high walls and barred gates. We also took many unwalled villages at the same time. We completely destroyed the kingdom of Bashan, just as we had destroyed King Sihon of Heshbon. We destroyed all the people in every town we conquered – men, women, and children alike. But we kept all the livestock for ourselves and took plunder from all the towns."
(Deuteronomy 3:1-7 NLT)
"The people of Samaria must bear the consequences of their guilt because they rebelled against their God. They will be killed by an invading army, their little ones dashed to death against the ground, their pregnant women ripped open by swords."
(Hosea 13:16 NLT)
"Suppose a man has a stubborn, rebellious son who will not obey his father or mother, even though they discipline him. In such cases, the father and mother must take the son before the leaders of the town.
They must declare: 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious and refuses to obey. He is a worthless drunkard.' Then all the men of the town must stone him to death.
In this way, you will cleanse this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid." (Deuteronomy 21:18-21 NLT)
Yes, let's do that to all the disobedient children - it may make the world a better place. When a man sells his daughter as a slave,
she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
My whole point is that there are so many outdated and CRUEL things in the bible. Why pick and choose what you think is appropriate, and what you want to discriminate against?
That is why I could never bring myself to follow the bible - you do not know the true intent of meanings, if any of it really happened, or even WANT to follow every single passage!
