Last night we had a horrible storm come through. We had no clue about the pending danger till DH was out picking up dinner and the person was hurrying and apologized saying that they were closing cause there was a tornado that touched down and was headed that way. So, Dh comes rushing home in shock because we saw lightening in the distance but no rain yet or anything. He gets home and then large, heavy hail starts coming down. It is hitting so hard that we are afraid the windows might break. A friend calls then and says there is another tornado on the ground even closer to us and heading right for us.
We grab flashlights, radio, blankets and pillows to put in our downstairs bathroom.
Now catching our kitties was a huge ordeal. It was like trying to catch three greased piglets.
They were all freaked about the hail and all three scattered in different directions. The boys and I all went after a different cat. Then we played "keep the kitties in the bathroom" cause one boy would get a cat in and another would open it to put another in and the first cat would run out when the door opened. Finally we got them all and ourselves in the bathroom.
It was scary but our middle son kept us laughing with his antics on how we would all sleep in the bath tub together over night.
And Oreo, Snickers and Jazz were sitting there just looking at us like, "Why did you call this family meeting and why are we involved?"

Obviously we made it through all unscathed.
The tornado came close but not too close. Hopefully others made it through well. Anyway, it was a long night.

So glad it didn't get you! Isn't it an awful feeling, trying to capture your cats under those circumstances? I went through this with my mom a few weeks ago, and it's a nightmare. We bought a weather radio to help make it more likely that we get a bit of warning next time.

Yes, leave it to my middle boy to help anyone laugh through scary times.

That is a good idea. I will be getting one of those. I am just glad we actually heard about it before it came close.

That's scary. A weather radio is a good idea. I think there are ones you can leave on stand-by, and they only give local watches/warnings.

So glad all of you were safe! It has been a really bad tornado year so far. May the worst be over.

Do your kitties ever sense that a tornado is coming? Here at budgie and kitty earthquake central I can tell you that the birds are not in tune with nature for earthquakes. My guess is that it is not much a survival thing for them since they can fly and something is still going to be standing when they land. We had a mild earthquake one night and Whitey Ford fell off the swing he sleeps on and was very indignant when he hit the cage floor.
Butzie is more aware. That same night, she was restless and started to meow. When the quake hit, and the bird plopped, she was more interested in the bird, like, I warned you guys about this quake but I can't help it if you don't listen and did that stupid bird actually fall off the swing?
