Target Stores Don't Support Veterans

Thread Starter
Since there are so many here who support our military, I thought this may be of interest to some here. I know as a private corporation they have every right to choose who they support. As a private citizen, I have every right to choose where to shop.

Vietnam Veterans Association By Dick Forrey

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that
"veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for a memorial remembrance.

As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or Veterans in general do not meet their area of giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores?

Please pass this on to as many people as you know.

Veterans Helping Veterans

PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for "Toys For Tots" during the holidays.

That is too bad. I am glad you brought that to my attention. I dont shop there anyway but will make sure I dont continue to. I think that the marines who collect for christmas is a wonderful thing. I have been in the military and they are close to my heart. Especially right now.

Thanks for the tip-off, Heidi. I'm already avoiding KMart, because of they way they shafted their stockholders. Now, Target goes on my $#!+ list. BTW: Mervyn's and Target are the same corporation.

good point cindy: marshall fields is also part of that corp.

That's a shame, because I love shopping at Target. I don't think I will be shopping there as often anymore, though, after reading this. I can't say I will boycott them completely, because 1) They are convienient, there is one practically across the street from me 2) Their prices are in the range I can afford. It is far kinder to the environment if I shop less than a quarter mile from home, than if I drive 15 miles to Walmart. So I guess you have to balance your causes...

I don't like Target, so that gives me another reason not to buy there. What's really disgraceful is that WWII has been over for almost sixty years, and their monument is not built yet! I know quite a few plans were being considered. Well, it's about time!

There is't a Target in my area ,so I won;t bother driving 45 mintues to shop there[I was going to]! Not support our troops

We don't have one here, but then again we don't get Target stores in Canada.

Still, that's stupid!

thats interesting about Target....... the veterans dont meet there cause, yet the gay & lesbian rights do? Sorry, but there is something wrong with this picture.

you would think people would want to help people that fought to make this country what it is.

It's hard to say for sure, but this sounds a lot like one of those urban legend/email hoaxes that starts up every time people are emotionally charged. Kind of like the 'Terrorist warns don't drink Pepsi' email.

We don't have a Target near here, but that is awful that they won't support the veterans!!
The Home Depot where I live does'nt allow Veterans to stand outside their doors either!

We don't have a Target store here in BC, well not that I know of!

It's a hoax.

This is why it's best not to forward this kind of mail or post it without researching things in depth. Go back to Target stores if you want to I've never been to one - we don't have them here.

There are so many hoaxes, that is why I rarely forward anything which is supposed to be a "true story". The latest hoax that I received was supposed to be a family looking for a child who had been abducted, as a police officer that one almost got me sucked in.

RESEARCH before Forwarding, your friends consider you a reliable source of information.
