We are moving across the country (2-day trip). I called the vet asking about sedatives, mostly for Chloe, just to make the experience less stressful on them. They have been on a 5-hour (1-way) road trip with me before and were fine, but this is so different from that.
At first they told me that they usually don't prescribe sedatives for car trips and that I could use Melatonin (over the counter) and put me on hold to get the dosage, and then the receptionist got back on the phone and told me that the vet was going to call in a Rx for Valium.
So is that pretty common for cats, as far as sedatives go? I just want them to be sleepy the whole way, for their sake. The road is going to be loud and they will be in carriers and won't be happy about that either. Also all the new places.....yikes. Should be interesting!
(I also have some At-Ease herbal spray for them that I am going to spray in the carriers. I have some Rescue Remedy somewhere, would that be helpful for this type of thing or is that a bad idea when they will have valium too?)
