every time cloud goes into the litter box he leaves a very nasty stinky poo that you can smell all through the house is it because i am feeding him 9 lives
i know i should be feed him a better food but it is all i can afford right now
is there any way to cut own on the smell?

Yes, it can be because of the food. Also, make sure that the stool isn't loose, but formed. Loose stools can be a sign of illness, and they often have a very strong odor.

Unless you can scoop the litter box immediately after Cloud uses it, there isn't too much you can do about the odor.

Keep in mind that if you feed high-quality food you don't have to feed as much of it (since it's more nutrient-dense), so you might be able to afford better food after all.

It could definitely be the food. As the above poster also mentioned, a better quality food, though it may cost more, often lasts longer because the cat won't feel the need to eat as much to get the nutrition it needs. I'm finding my Orijen lasts much much longer than the cheaper food I used to use.

Also, with the better food, the litter lasts longer because the cats don't have to go to the bathroom as much.

What sort of 9 lives (dry? wet?) and what is your price range? What sort of stores are near you? Grocery, Walmart, pet stores, livestock and farm feed store?

Someone should be able to help you find a better one that may only end up costing $2-$5 more overall - better quality does mean the cat will eat less, as Yosemite mentioned.

for example - my 3 wet eaters share 1 can of Chicken Soup - but when i was trying to save money, i attempted feeding 9 Lives... they needed 2 cans of that. so i would end up saving about $.05 per day... not worth it, IMO, given the difference in quality.
same thing w/kibble - they eat less of the Royal Canin than of the Authority. i like the ingredients of Authority well enough to serve it in a pinch - but the RC lasts me far longer, so it's only a savings in that i don't have to spend as much initially... in the long run, the RC ends up about the same price [if not less].
