Surprise!!!
The kittens eyes just began to open. I read some place that if they do not open in 8 days after birth, that means they are normally LONG haired. So, I guess that means all the kittens will have longer hair? They are 11 days!

"then the eyes open...
Shorthair kittens begin to open their eyes at 5-8 days.
Longhair kittens do not open their eyes until 10-14 days. Isn't that strange? So if some of your kittens don't have their eyes open yet, but the others do, it may be because they are longhaired. All kittens' eyes are beautiful deep orbs of blue at first. They will look like this until the kittens are three weeks old. Then the iris and pupil will form and the kitten's permanent eye colors will slowly emerge. At first, although the eyes are open, the kittens are still almost completely blind.

I was wondering about the blue eyes. The 9 kittens I am taking care of are all opening their eyes, but they don't appear to be able to see anything yet. Thanks for your post.

I've never heard of that therory on LH vs. SH. Kittens will open eyes from about 4 or 5 days to 14 days. My rexes (SH) opened around 4-5 days old. My Russian Blues (SH) opened 10-14 days. So there really is no indication of long/short hair and opening of the eyes.

One of my longhaired kittens opened his eyes when he was 1 day old.
I don't think that is always accurate. It was though accurate with my other litter. The longhaired kitten took the longest to open her eyes.

I suppose it isnt always accurate, but it has been said that longer haired kittens open their eyes later than shorter haired.

There has even been studies preformed between certain breeds and also breeds that produce both long and short haired kittens.

In the litter my latest foster had, she has two kittens that opened their eyes later than the rest... and they appear to be the two that will have longer fur! I cant wait to see them when they are bigger!

Anyway... I'll try to dig up the article on the study.

I know it isnt a standard... like another poster said, some kittens will open their eyes at day one or at their own will.... but I guess you'll see!

Is the mother a long-hair?

I think that was wrong about the pupil, too. If you see a photo of a kitten's eyes, you can see the pupil as soon as the eyes are open.

Mom is short haired, but the dads were all long haired, so...? lol! Ya just never know, huh?

I went to snoped.com and asked them if they knew anything about it. I wonder if they will post something about it some time
I thought it was an interesting "fact" -
