A little while ago I got a kitten, Zoe, to go along with my 7 year old cat, Miles. I kept her seperated for a week in her own room, then I just kept her shut in her room when I was at work and at night. I put up Miles food when Zoe was out and Miles really didn't show much intrest in her food so I left it out. Now I am letting Zoe free roam of the house except for at night.

The problem now is that they are both nibblers. They never eat much at one time and Zoe seems to enjoy Miles' food, maybe more than her own. Can you convert nibblers ? I'm not sure what to do except to go back to shutting Zoe up again so she'll eat her own food more often.

If food is available all the time, they will not stop being nibblers. Could you feed them and then take away their food dish whether they're finished or not until the next meal? If Miles is not eating as much as he should, he may have to be checked by your veterinarian. For Zoe, to make sure she eats what a kitten needs, feed her separately.

Miles has never really seemed to eat that much but he's 13 lbs and healthy. I can try and see if putting out smaller amounts of food several times a day might work better. Zoe's dishes are upstairs and miles' are downstairs so I can stArt hers then go downstairs and feed him.

I learned from the vet to feed twice a day, morning and dinner. I do watch that spike doesn't eat it all, because pansy and fang will walk away after eating half, so I pick up their dishes, after Spike finishes his and leaves they come in and eat most of the rest of theirs, let it sit, and then spike comes in and finishes most of it. I may leave what is left down, but no more until dinner. This has worked well and kept their weights good. fang was being very piggy since he was a recue, and I think he will eat every thing out there. HE was getting too fat.

Well this weekend I started giving them food twice a day, feeding Miles downstairs and Zoe in the room I was keeping her seperated in. I keep the door shut to her room and give them from 30 to 45 minutes to eat. Zoe eats most of not all of her food and Miles is eating, but not as much as he used to. Considering that he was able to nibble as he pleased for almost 7 years and ate alot at night, I think he's making fair progress.

Will it take time for him to adjust or should he have adjusted within a couple of days ?
