Hello from beautiful West Palm Beach, FL. I decided to join after reading a few posts on this great site. My partner and I are owned by a beautiful 4 or 5 year old grey american short hair tabby mix named Iris. We had rescued her at our local humane society after my siamese/manx mix died very suddenly a month after I had moved to FL. She has been a source of great joy in our home.
Less than 2 weeks ago as my partner was going to work he noticed a kitten in a pothole in the road. For some reason, he decided to stop and check on it and as it turned out it was alive but very scared. He put it up on the grass on the curb and went on to work. About a half hour later he returned and it was still right where he put it. He took it to the vet, where he found out it was a girl, and she was very healthy. So after spending over $200 (he got the kitten package..
)...we now have a brand new addition to our home.
I originally wanted to name her Nrk (Nearly Road Kill), I know, I have a sick sense of humor
, but we ended up naming her Oreo. I still think Nrk fits her better.
Now we are going through the process of dealing with the hissing, growling etc. from Iris as we try to introduce Oreo into our home and family. My only concern now is Iris is thinking we don't love her any longer. She is now even hissing & growling at me....sigh.
Anyway, I am looking forward to being here and hoping to read a lot of great stories of all your furbabies...
