One of the things I check out is the breeder cats official names as the breeders in my opinion deserve recognition so I would put their official names up plus it lends credibility to your program.

Thanks for all your comments. The website is very new and I am just starting to make my updates. It will soon include the pedigrees and lots of other information that I know needs to be added. Yes my cats have all been HCM tested are Feline Leuk. and Feline Aids tested NEG. Just haven't had the time yet to add everything on the site and I have never had a website sooooo I am still learning how to add everything. These cats are hilarious. I have family and friends that have squirmed and said "I don't want to touch that thing" when they first encountered these guys and now, having been around them and seen the great personalities, want to snatch them from me. It is really funny, they truly grow on you. Now when I see a "hairy" cat I think it looks weird, really.

Along the same lines, when Charlie was in the finals in a ring, there was a sphynx in the finals and Charlie could kinda see it in the cage from where he sat.

He kept staring at the cat the entire time - probably wondering WHY there was no fur on the cat!

What associations do you show your cats in?

This might help answer your question, I don't know if Lele has shown before and isn't showing right now or if they don't show?

Lele - Are your cats TICA of CFA reg or both?

I missed that part.....

To the OP - if your cats are show quality, then you really should be showing them instead of just breeding them. Most breeders start out by showing THEN get show quality to breed. And you will know if you really have quality cats if you show

Sorry, my computer is down at home so didn't get you questions until this morning. I have TICA Cattery and two of my cats are TICA only registered. My other female is CFA and TICA registered. My male who I think is a great specimin had his tale stuck in a door when he was a kitten and now has a pretty good scar so I am pretty sure puts him out of the running as far as showing. I would actually love to show and have started looking for shows in my area. I am a little intimidated. I have heard stories from both ends. Some say showing is all about the clicks and unless you know the judge or other top breeders you will spend a lot of money and not get much out of it. Others say it is a must to learn more about the breed and help strive to better the breed within you breeding program. I am still debating and would like to know of you experiences if anyone wants to input. I am like I said before a little intimidated...

The male would be unshowable, even if it was an injury. I would seriously get some of your cats in the show ring - at least to get championship (not that hard). It will look better on you and the cats if they are titled.

There are circumstances where some cats can't be shown yet they will produce top quality kittens/cats that have gone on to get Grand Championships - that should be your goal. Without showing something, how can you really say you have quality cats or the kittens will be quality?

In Charlie's case, his mom was never shown as she was in/out of heat all the time - yet she has produced many Grand Champion/Premier offspring. His pedigree is loaded with titled cats - mostly Grands

Charlie is a new ACFA Grand now; still working on CFA's Grand.

With Jack, he may not have as many grands in his pedigree cause a lot of his family goes back to Europeon lines and their champion titles are probably closer to our grand titles. I have to wait and see who are his parents and then see what he has

From my experience I believe it goes both ways
I also believe if you have a really good cat it will win no matter who you are. I have also seen imo some not so good cats win because they are from a top cattery so imo it does go both ways. But you must start somewhere and if that means at the bottom with so so cats than be it. Getting your name out there and meeting other breeders shows how dedicated and willing you are to preserve and improve your breed and that you are a responsible breeder.

I do not feel it is possible to understand your breed standard without showing and seeing your breed in the ring with others of that breed. You will learn which cats the judges like and why. You will learn what qualities that you like or need to improve on for each cat you show. And by knowing the qualities you will be able to choose which cats to breed to which lines. And that is why you must show to be a responsible breeder.

AND more important - you have to judge your own cats and be critical of them. You have to know what is good or bad about them, so you can pick the right mate to improve what your cat lacks.

Without showing and comparing, you might think you have the greatest cat in the world.

While Charlie is a Grand, I can tell you right now what I don't like about him (type) and what could be better. When I get Jack, I'm looking at wanting certain things on Jack that Charlie doesn't have. I hope Jack really is better then Charlie

Spooky was a great show cat (Granded in several associations); however my goal was to get a better cat. One of his nephews was better and I loved when the judges actually had to look at the two cats. Didn't matter to me which one got best of breed - they both had qualities - matter of opinion as to which one carried more weight with the judge. I won no matter what cause I bred one of them and owned the other....lol

That is cool you are looking at shows in your area. I think it is a lot of fun, and remember you are there for the cats first of all. With lots of cat lovers and crazy cat ladies, it is good environment for us cat people. The Sphynx I know are naturals at showing, they love the attention. Just find some shows and go, learn if you like it or not, learn more about the various types out there, more about what other breeders have, more about what you like and don't like, more about the standards, and to be honest I bet your cats will love it
Like a lot. But don't be intimidated
you have nice cats and will learn a lot and I think everyone will have fun. It does help you learn about the breed in many different ways and more information will help your breeding program I would think

While you have a mentor (which is good) you should be getting out there and listening to others. Not every breeder is 100% right, its better to get a lot of different opinions and work with more then one person. You learn a lot from judges!

I even "corrected" a judge on what pattern an Oci was supposed to have
During her initial judging she mentioned that Oci spots were random on the coat - that is wrong - they should resemble a bullseye on the sides but not like the bullseye pattern on an American; just the hint of being that way.

So when we had to take our cats out for finals and tell the audience about them, I corrected the judge then by saying the pattern should loosely form a bullseye pattern on the sides. Next time she will know (or at least go back and read the standard)

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am looking at showing and will let you know how it goes. There is a TICA show in Fort Worth in June, if I don't I can't show this time I am definantly going to watch how it all goes down and get some insite.
