Well, I'm going to be a burr under a saddle and tell everyone to not get their hopes up!! I found out today that the stimulus payment that we were supposed to get was reduced!! Apparently a disabled 16 yr old child doesn't qualify as a dependant!!
Just like the government to promise one thing and do something else.

I went to my notary public yesterday and she was telling us her 17 year old son didnt qualify, that 17 was the cut off age - despite still being in highschool... friends of ours got their rebate and it was reduced by 300 and they couldnt figure out why... they also have a 17 year old... and a 15 year old.

I'm now interested in finding out if my 16 year old made the cut off!

Guess we'll see...

ETA this is from the IRS website...

Extra Money for Qualifying Child: Eligible taxpayers who qualify for a payment may receive an additional $300 for each qualifying child. To qualify a child must be under age 17.

Gotta wonder how they came up with that age... and how much they are saving by doing that!

Yeah...that's the key phrase! "MAY" be eligible...
I guess 16 yr olds turning 17 in December count too! So unfair...

Oh that sucks! You SO missed the deadline by one month... probably not even a whole month! You're right, doesnt seem right. And I think it sucks they made 17 the cut off date!

The December thing though, reminds me of people who 'joke' about being able to claim their kid when they were born New Year's Eve or the like and only lived in the house for a matter of days... Guess it goes both ways. Hrrrumph.

Sorry to hear you missed that one.

What sucks is that she doesn't turn 17 until Dec. 2008. My understanding was that this stimulus payment thingiie was for the 2007 tax year. Oh well...I'm thankful for what we did get, anyway.

That almost happened to us. We sold our truck back in November, and since it was fully depreciated the entire sale price was considered "ordinary income," even though the vast majority of it was used to pay off the outstanding balance on the loan.

But we got our stimulus check direct deposited yesterday.

I think we're going to be patriotic and buy an HDTV and a welder with it.

Hmmm... It'll be interesting to see mine then... my daughter also turns 17 this year. Guess we'll see.

Like you though, something is better than nothing.

I thought people either got $300, 600, or 1200 (plus dependents) back as a set amount? I got the full $600 for my stimulus check.

Now the state of South Carolina needs to send me my darn refund!! That's $740 I'm waiting on!!!

Im all confused! Im married with 3 kids, and should be getting 2100 is what we've been told, but I just dont know!

they also look at your AGI... that's why i'm not getting the full $600.

I think we're getting 2100 also... 600 for couple (we are self-employed, so we dont qualify for the 1200 couple rate) and 300 per child (5 kids). But if they cont my daughter as a 17 year old (she turns 17 this July) then I guess we will only get 1800.... which is perfectly fine too. better than nothing


We'll be using ours to pay off our car insurance for the year - that'll be a nice bill to not have to worry about - and the rest is a toss up.

Mine was supposed to have posted in my bank account on the 9th, and I have not seen it. If I do not get it in the next 3 days, I am going to be evicted or have to sell my truck I just got a month ago. It's either sell it or live in it. I guess I can be thankful that I have it to sell if I have to. There are a lot of people that are in worse shape.
