Looking for some advice please on weaning kittens (Pics inc..)

Hi,

The 3 kittens are 5 weeks old now and 2 out the 3 have eaten some food but this doesn't seem to be consistent and they don't seem that bothered about it at all. Yesterday they did go upto it once on their own accord but today not at all!

Then the little tabby refuses to eat at all! I really wanted all of them well and truley weaned by now as mum is quite thin - although we're are feeding her loads and want to ease the strain on her.

Any ideas as to what I can try - we have tried rubbing wet food on her mouth and trying to put some in her mouth and she seems to enjoy it when she tastes it but never tries licking or eating it from our fingers or the bowl!

We would be grateful for some ideas!

They are all just adorable, and will catch up on the eating thing if they get too hungry. If mom is still nursing, she will get tired of it and teach them to eat on their own. I know it is worrisome, but they won't starve. They look perfectly healthy to me, and mommy cats always look pitifully thin. She will put her weight back on after weaning, especially if she is spayed ASAP. I hear it is good to continue with kitten food while nursing, and a little after to get her weight back up.

First I just love the brown patched tabby one At that age, they are not real interested in eating solid foods. If they are still nursing from mom, don't force the issue. I have better luck when they are about 6 weeks to really start encouraging them to eat. I've started at 5 weeks, and some pick up on it for a day or so, others don't. By the time they hit 6-7 weeks they are a lot more willing to eat and then they act like little pigs once they "like" the taste

All 3 are girls and they are so funny at this stage, running about everywhere and dancing around with their backs arched! They are definately not lacking in energy!

I'm giving mum good quality wet and dry kitten food and will continue to do so for a while yet. x
