My kitty underwent radioactive iodine treatment 3 weeks ago tomorrow. She's been home for two weeks and is doing well. The only thing that concerns me is her appetite. She eats but only nibbles at small portions during the course of the day. She won't eat dry food, only the wet stuff. She's a fussy little eater to say the least. She's very skinny and I'm looking forward to seeing her put on a few pounds. All tests, before and after her treatment, were fine.

For anyone who has gone through, how was your kitty's appetite after treatment? Am I just getting too anxious to see her back to her old self?

Thank-you to anyone who can give me some info to relieve this worried mind.

Lack of appetite is a relatively common side effect after the treatment. I woudl suggest measuring the amount you are feeding--if she isn't eating enough, ask the vet about appetite stimulants. Sometimes kitties need a bit of supportive care to get them through the first few weeks after treatment, and it's critical that they eat enough food. If you can help keep their appetite up, they do get through this period.

I'd also suggest trying a variety of foods. That often helps. The only other thing I would suggest is checking her teeth--if they are bothering her, that could contribute to the fussiness.
