Hi, this is something ive been wondering about..

What are your average vets costs compared to ours in the UK..

Here are a few examples of a vets from the UK

Cat castration £54.29 (107.14 USD)
Cat spay £71.90 (141.86 USD)
Microchipping £31.78 (62.70 USD)
Routine ultrasound examination £70.32 (138.75 USD)

Kitten [combined health check + vaccination]

Cost per injection
Cat flu/enteritis only £37.33 (73.65 USD)
Cat flu/enteritis/leukemia £46.31 (91.35 USD)

*A kitten will need a course of two injections

I realise that different places charge different amounts but it would be intresting to get a rough idea.

Well, in the metropolitan area....it's around $40/distemper shot. It's $13 here.

Spay is around $130.
Neuter around $100.

From there, most everything varies from one vet to the next.

At our vet it's about $32 for an office call (all animals, not per animal). $50 for a neuter, $90 for a spay, and combo vaccine plus rabies and leukemia around $45. It is a rural area.

I'm in Manchester - north west england - and all of those things are a bit cheaper than quoted. I can't remember them all, but it costs about £35 to have a male cat neutered at my vets, £20 for a routine consultation, £25 for booster vaccinations (excluding FeLV) and about £20 for microchipping.

Your vet is quite expensive.

My vet charges £20 for the first consult, then it goes down (not sure to what, as they are generally having other things done by the third consult!!), females are £43, males are £32.90 and chipping is £20 (unless done while under, then it is £15) - and that is quite expensive, I try and go places that do it for £15.

Thank goodness France is a bit cheaper than the UK! My vet doesn't charge me consultation fees, only for actual treatment - an antibiotic injection is 20 euros, and medicines.

My vet is quite expensive, where they are located they have high overheads. I don't object as they are great!

Neuter - £55
Spay - £95 (I think, all mine are male but that's around what they quoted me for sonic until I pointed out he had pom poms
)
Kitten vaccinations and health check - £56
Yearly vaccinations and health check - £42
Initial consultation - £40
Follow up consultation - £30

On the up side, drug costs are quite reasonable, just looking at the boys' records:

Synulox injection - £8.75
Tolfedine Injection - £1.37
Convenia Injection - £12.75

I also worm them occassionally as even though they are indoor only we do get mice in (strangely suicidal mice), I don't recall Drontal for 3 cats being eye-poppingly expensive although I can't find the bill for that visit...

Good to get an idea of some costs over in the UK, because as soon as the husband's contract is up here in Ireland, that is the most likely place we will be returning to (unless he gets another extension...).

Anyway, our vet visits here in Cork...it was 40 euros to get the boys neutered and 90 euros to get our girl spayed. I can't quite remember how much their injections were, as we got them done early on...I know our de-worming tablets were 10 euros for for the 3 of them (two doses each) - we de-wormed when we took them in as they had been feral kittens outside our house.

In my area vet costs varry greatly. It's been 5 years since I've done any comparrison shopping but when I did a neuter was any where from $55 to $175. Here are the costs at my vet, and yes they tend to be a little on the expensive side but they do a great job:

Vet consult $45
Rabies shot $25
Other Vacs $15 - $35 (depending on what it is)
In House Blood test $85
Full CBC $130

A few more numbers:
gas anesthesia $20
x-ray $44
basic bloodwork $39
extensive/senior bloodwork $49
exam $22

ETA: If you bring in 2 cats for exams at once it ends up being $15 each cat. If your are me & bring in like 4-6 cats at once he gives you a rate of $10 each.

Wow...let me tell you!

I go to the cheapest vet in the area (I go because I like him, not because he's cheap). He costs $47 to walk in the door.

Neuter was $180
Spay was $210
These were done by two different vets, because I moved

Shots (combo plus rabies, no leukemia): $45-60

Cardio ultrasound for chester: $550-1200 (depending on vet estimates)

Life with kitties is expensive!

Edit: I just saw the numbers above. Our vet back home charges at least $80 for a senior panel

Yowza!
This vet is the mediocre priced one, too. There is one who charges $200 spay, the other is like $115 for a spay (he's stupid enough he has "missed" taking the entire uterus during a spay!!!!!!)

I would say my vet would be about $150 for a neuter about $200 for a spay.
A senior panel 5 years about was somewhere around $100.

Under a pile of cats (and dogs)
My new vet (just moved)
about $65 for neuter
$12 for a rabies shot
$10 for a pre neuter exam

My old vet was
$25 for neuter (years ago, and I did bring in five at once so maybe I got a deal?)
Wormer was $5 for a tablet that did up to 8 or 10 pounds (all my cats take two)
Rabies shots were $20
Office visit was $30

Pricing does depend of the part of country you live in here in the U.S. -- rural vs. urban, big city vs. small community.

I just payed $320 US dollars for an ultrasound, and I live in an urban metro area.

So, I think in Greece seeing a vet is really expensive
I get "wholesale discount" from my vet and he does not charge for visits, only treatment
vaccinations - 20 euro to 35 euro for each vaccine
antibiotics shot or other injection - 10 to 15 euro
enema 30 euro
blood tests done in a human lab (lack of vet lab) 40 euro
sterilizations - male - 35 euro, female 50 euro

other things i've done in athens as an emergency -
catherization + unblockage - 180 euro, that included x-ray
visit 25 euro

Another Canadian comparison

Spay $325 (includes IV and bloodwork)
Neuter $185
Visit Fee $60
Shots $70 (exc FeLV)
Senior Panel $145 (this is my personal vet and she isn't the cheapest the others are vets we use for the shelter)

Life up here is not cheap!
