What a mess!!

I ran out of regular dishwasher gel/tabs, so I used dishwashing detergent in place of it. Now I'm not a complete idiot, and know that it's not the same thing. But I figured using just a little wouldn't be too bad, and wouldn't make a lot of suds to make a mess. I didn't use more than a teaspoon full. Geez - was that a mistake!

I had suds running out of the dishwasher all over the place! I had to run the dishwasher through six rinsing cycles to dispose of all the suds - and in between the cycles I had to stop & restart each one in order to clean up the suds that were gushing out of the machine. I guess I've earned the dunce of the week award this time around..

Well, at least I have a clean floor now, and sqeaky-clean dishes!

My husband did that years ago. I heard him scrambling around in the kitchen and went to see, and he wouldn't let me in the kitchen. Kept pushing me back down the hall. When I finally saw what was going on...I almost screamed, but then I just started laughing. What a mess! But I was glad it wasn't me that did it, he had to clean it all up!

Don't worry, I've done it too!!! I didn't use hardly any at all either and boy was it a mess. I didn't happen to walk into the kitchen till near the end of the wash cycle!
There was bubbles out of every seal and about a 4 foot radius around the dishwasher was bubbles up to your knees! The worst part about the whole thing was that we were in a rental that stupidly thought carpet was a great floor cover for a kitchen
Bubbles are so hard to get rid of!!!

I doubt that I'll ever forget myself!
It's an experience one will never forget..

I had a dream about it that night (this occurred on Saturday) where the Scrubbing Bubbles were chasing me around the kitchen..

I sure am glad to hear that I'm not the ONLY one who's ever done this!

I'm sure glad my s/o wasn't home to witness my intelligence!
He probably would have wet his pants if he would have seen what an idiot I am..

You mean you've never seen some sitcom where they put that in the dishwasher by mistake?

Sounds like something that would make a great prank. If the drain part comes out of the bottom of the dishwasher you could pull that out and squirt some soap in there, no one would know until they turned it on and got a surprise.

That's even worse!
It was bad enough catching it when I did: I'd hate to imagine how much worse it could have been, if I wouldn't have seen it occurring when I did!

You're right: there's nothing worse than cleaning up bubbles! Except for maybe soap or detergent that gets spilled onto the floor..

I think I recall seeing a show or two where there were tons of suds coming out of a washing machine b/c someone added too much detergent, but never a dishwasher..

I could think of one or two people who I'd like to pull that on..

Over the river and through the woods...
OMG, I'm glad you posted this, because I'm running REALLY low on cascade and was considering using dishwashing liquid! I wouldn't be smart enough to only put a little bit in either...I probably would have filled it up the entire way!

But, think of it this way....at least your kitchen floor is clean now! Hey, that's it...just say you were doing two jobs at once.

Sometimes I start the dishwasher and leave the house for something. I can just see myself using dishsoap and coming home to a house full of suds.

Far far away!
OMG!! What funny stories!! Sounds like something I would do, seriously!
I don't have a dishwasher, so I guess I have nothing to worry about!

You know, I've always wondered about that. There have been times I've run out of dishwasher stuff and have been tempted to try regular dish soap, but decided against it. Glad that I did!

My boyfriend put dish soap in the dishwasher once, along with the detergent (I have no idea why) but it didn't do anything. I guess I was lucky I must have had stuff that doesn't make too many bubbles.
