I asked the vet about a urinalysis, and we are going to get one done.

How much of it should I collect to bring to the vet? So far I only have about 2 drops. The lady on the phone said that they didn't need much, but I think I am going to try to collect more.

For quantity, a couple of ounces would be more than enough...BUT, here's the thing:

The urine needs to be tested within 2 hours of the collection...otherwise the results will be "off". So, keeping it in the fridge, etc...won't work.

aIt's got to be "fresh".

Yeah. I am going to give the vet a call tomorrow for more details on how much / how recent they want it.

Yeah, I feel like I've a million questions to ask the vet.

Pooch is my first cat... and I've had him ever since he was about 2 weeks old.

It's funny that when an unexpected situation comes up like this, you start thinking all sorts of things. Will he be okay? How would my other two cats feel if Pooch were gone? What could I do to prevent this from happening? What the heck is going on with my cat? Meanwhile, I tell myself that I have to be patient to wait for the medicine to kick in, but these thoughts just come, and it's hard not to think about it when I care for Pooch so much. Then as you think more into it, a bit of guilt starts to creep up on you. Was it something I did that caused this?

Everyone I talked to brought up the issue that it might be the food. I feed Nutro Indoor. Maybe about two months ago, I started mixing some Innova with the Nutro. All these questions are popping up. Should I change foods? Is Nutro not good enough for them? Innova seems better than Nutro, but I feel that Pooch doesn't really enjoy Innova as much as Nutro.

I talked to several people, and a friend had the exact same thing happen to his cat. The vet put his cat on an antibiotic and Cosequin. Pooch (as well as my friend's cat) is a munchkin. He explained that because they have shorter legs, that they can put more pressure on their joints when they jump. He continued to say that the lining in the bladder consists of things that are similar to that of the joints, and so Cosequin helps make it stronger.

Cosequin is something I'm going to ask the vet about, as well as having them maybe extracting the urine from Pooch when we're there so it's fresh for the most accurate results. The vet hospital isn't opened today, so I will have to wait until tomorrow to call and ask, and perhaps go down there should we need any tests done.

I try to stay calm, but the longer this peeing thing persists, the more I worry inside. I really wish I had the answers.

Edit: One more thing... I am trying to make sure he is pooping. He has been eating, so he should be pooping, but I don't think I've scooped out any of his poop since I took him to the vet. Maybe I am just worrying too much. Time seems to go much slower when you're anxious.

Some vet will administer subQ fluid & wait a couple of hours to extract urine. You may want to ask your vet to see if they'll do that.

How long has it been since the vet visit? He's probably just stressed out. I'd spray rescue remedy in the house.

I will call the vet tomorrow and ask about the SubQ. We took Pooch to the vet on Monday.

Should I put him on a wet food diet for now, to up his water intake? If so, I'll have to look for a good wet food.

certainly wouldn't hurt him. you can even add a little water to the wet to make it 'wetter'!

Pooch hasn't peed today yet. I don't think he has pooped either.

Any insight to why he hasn't peed yet today? :worried:

It wasn't just a few droplets either.
