I have a book called, "The Older Cat" by Dan Poynter that says, among other things, that, as far as we know, cats do not get upset at the prospect of their death. Sadness and regret are not feline feelings. It also says that cats don't have that much of forward thinking, meaning they don't think about what is going to happen tomorrow or this weekend. They think ahead to their next meal and that night and that's about it.

This revelation is excellent for people, like me, who have older cats, or cats that are sick. I think that it helps for people who can't decide when to do the "deed". I know I won't go to far-reaching lengths to keep Whisky around because he has lived a full life and I know he has been happy with me and all his travels. (he has moved with me about 12 times in his life)

Hope this helps someone out there...
