Over the river and through the woods...
Well, DH finally went to a sleep specialist a few weeks ago for his sleep apnea. He has always snored loudly, but the last few years he's been holding his breath, which drives me crazy! There have been nights I haven't been able to sleep because I'm afraid he won't start breathing again, so I stay up and nudge him everytime he does it.

As soon as he walked into the doctor's office, he took one look at him and said "even before I ask any questions, I will bet you have sleep apnea because you look like sh*t!". DH is always tired, even after a "good" nights sleep of 7-8 hours. He had a physical and blood work before he went to this doctor and everything is fine in that area. Vitamins don't help. So hopefully this will.

Problem is....this is the first night since we've been married that we haven't slept in the same bed.
(There was one night he spent the night in the emergency room, but I didn't sleep that night anyway) Maybe I will actually get a better nights sleep, who knows. I DO know I'm not crating the dogs tonight so I know I won't be alone in bed. The funny thing is, I shaved my legs this morning and DH said "it figures...the night I WON'T be here, you decide to shave your legs!"

I say that to my boyfriend whenever he complains that I need to shave.

how was your CPAP night, Sarah?

i had a split study done... 1st, monitored, no CPAP. then, since i showed signs of apnea, they woke me up & added the CPAP.
best sleep i'd had in a long time, w/the CPAP!

Trust me you will be happy that he went to the sleep clinic. When my husband and I were first married we didn't even sleep in the same room because of his snoring. After almost a year of marriage and sleeping in different rooms, he went and had a sleep study done. Turned out he had sleep apnea and is now on a CPAP machine and it was like night and day for us. As soon as he came home we were able to sleep in the same bed and have now for almost 2 years. It is hard making it through the night without him home I know, but it will all be worth it in the end.

What we both figure will happen is he will go in, sleep like a baby, and not show any signs of it (probably because he doesn't have my hairy legs rubbing against him.
). Then, it will start all over again once he comes home. Kind of like when you take your car to the machanic and it purrs like a kitten, but on the way home it starts sputtering like it's dying. That's our luck!

Sarah, I will probably be PMing you tomorrow or over the weekend, depending on what they find. Thanks!

Yep. That's what mine was like to, and even though I only had 3 hours or so with the CPAP, I felt really refreshed when they woke me up in the morning. I now have a CPAP that I use when I'm in bed. I make sure I use it even when I'm just laying down to rest my back, just in case I fall asleep. It's great!

Well, I wasn't particularly comfortable having so many things hooked to me, and was waking up constantly. I woke up once because the air pressure was too high and I felt like I was hyperventilating, I woke up because I had all the wires tangled up, I half woke up once and tried to do a big sigh (if you open your mouth on CPAP the air rushing into your nose comes rushing out your mouth), and I coughed and spluttered which made it worse, which completely freaked me out. That kept me awake for a bit. So I woke up still feeling tired.

I'm also going to be doing a drug trial, taking sleeping pills (or a placebo) each night for the first month with CPAP. They want to see if that helps people get used to the CPAP.

My dad has sleep apnea and did a sleep study years ago - he won't be getting a good night's sleep either so don't feel bad haha, they wake you up every so many hours... my dad has a sleep machine now (I guess it's a CPAP, I was never told what it's actually called haha), it's a mask that goes over his nose to keep air going through him... he kinda looks like an elephant with it on and it used to scare the poo out of my black lab haha.. but my dad is horrible without it - he literally shakes our house if he doesn't use it and yeah, he stops breathing sometimes and even snores so loudly that he scares himself awake... he often falls asleep on the floor with the dog watching tv or in the recliner before going up to bed and my mom or I have to like punch him to wake him up cuz he snores so loud you can't hear yourself think.... hopefully they'll find a good fix for your hubby!

I had a sleep study done, too. I snore and have apnea. I do feel better with the CPAP machine and so does my BF b/c HE can get a night's sleep.

I just hate using it b/c I have to sleep on my back and I am a stomach sleeper. However, I just found a CPAP pillow at the local medical supply store. I haven't gotten it - it's expensive, but I may give in b/c it will allow me to sleep on my stomach.

You can sleep on your side with CPAP machines. Not that it helps if you're a stomach sleeper...

The CPAP pillow - it's not the Sona pillow you're talking about is it?
