SO. . I've had cats all my life. I've been waiting for this moment to come. My kitties aren't so old anymore. They are roughly 9 months now. Terrance likes to show me love when I sit down on the couch after work- today, he climbed on my lap as usual, kissed my face as usual, then- not so usual he put his butt in my face! He kept it there very intentionally, then looked back at me as if he was saying "smell it, mom!"

Its cute to me- my boyfriend hates it. . Why do cats do this?

It's a trust thing. When they're showing you their bum, they're making themselves very vulnerable and by doing so, they're saying 'I trust you and know you won't do anything to hurt me'. Another sign of trust is when they fall asleep on you - ie, they close their eyes completely, not just that second white layer.

Abby loves to stick her butt in my face!

In fact, it's her preferred method of being cuddled. While Chynna will cuddle up to me with her face near mine, Abby will cuddle up to me with her face about 6 inches from mine and allow me to give her a few scratches on top of her head. Then after a few minutes she turns around so that her back end is near my face. I wrap my arm around her and hold her hind legs in my hand and pull her close and rest my head on her back by her tail. I don't mind though; I'm just thankful that she wants to cuddle with me at all!!

Huh I have had cats my entire life and never knew thats what that meant. All three of my cats must really trust me cause I constantly have their butts in my face lol.

Arwen is the main culprit for the whole 'sticking the butt in the face' thing
I know that she trusts me when she does so!

Kittens greet their mother and littermates that way. My Oliver and Rocky are almost 7 years old and still do it to each other, not just to me. It means your cats think of you as their surrogate parent.

Mine forever show me their butts - especially when we're all sleeping (or at least I'm trying to) - I admit, when I first got Dharma, I was a little insulted as being shown her rear end, until I read that it was a compliment and show of trust.

This is really annoying and gross to me, but my cat does it all the time. I like the head side more than the back side as rough sandpaper kisses are better than the yucky bum side! But since when did the cat care what I like?
It is her world, I just happen to be living in it

Could be worse. My cat Jake jumps in my lap....and then farts! He has done this several times. I'm afraid to know what this signifies....

My cats give me booty face often. Sometimes after the litter and I smell poo.
Note to kitties:Groom booty THEN show me how much you trust me.
After a can of salmon...I don't even want to describe it.

Ahhh, the butt greeting
I get one from Popsie every night at bedtime. He'll hop into bed with me, come up by my face, then show me his rear end. Usually he's rubbing his face all over my night stand at the same time.

Good to know, I just had a little love fest with my little mama...what a nice skinny butt she has! lol. She's such a sweet girl, head butting me, purring her head off, love nipping me, kneading dough, and falling asleep on my chest/side or shoulder. What an
Love her!!!

Side note, I kinda feel sorry for anybody else. My mom always complains that she never sees Mia while I'm gone at work and how antisocial she is, avoids people and runs...well she's overly social with me, I guess she's just a mama's girl but it is kinda concerning... I mean what if something were to happen to me? Would she be able to be someone else's pet? Oh Mia...

one morning I woke up with my cat tiger actually sitting on the back of my head
I was very disoriented does this mean the same thing as a bum to the face?

Yes, it's greeting and identification. Kittens present themselves to Mom for inspection and um, cleaning. Notice how, like dogs, cats do smell each other's bums to know who and what. So kitty is doing all these things to
Y-O-U, as a member of his/her/their cat family.
