Okay, so I went to the pet shop today and they are out of the cat food I normally buy. Ah. I spoke to the guy who owns the place, as I was worried that meant that they were going to stop stocking it, but no - they are just waiting for the shipment to come in over from England (it is a small pet food company).

So here is my dilemma. Whilst they are out of my normal cat food, they do have a light version of the cat food in stock. My cats are not overweight at all - only 8 months old and very active. Is it okay to give them light cat food for a few days until they get their stock of regular cat food in? This is the only pet store in my area that sells this food, so I can't buy it elsewhere (and I have no car, so I can't go searching for it...). I don't want to change their food entirely for a few days only to just go back to the other food - I am really happy with the company and the cats like the food. Any advice? I have enough of the normal stuff to fill their dishes today, but after that...well, they are going to need something!

Are you talking about dry cat food or wet? Canned/wet doesn't usually cause problems when switching. But the dry may as its better to gradually change over.

I suspect a few days on the lite will not cause problems, but be aware your cats may have some loose stools with the "sudden" change. If they do, maybe add a few bites of cheese to help bind them up

Yeah - it is their dry food. I am going to go back tomorrow in hopes that they have the restock - the guy said they are just waiting (they got their new stock of dog food the other day, so the cat stuff should be on its way...). I am just happy with the company and the quality of food, so I would rather use another type of the same brand than switch completely to a new brand for a few days only to switch back once they get their stock...

I shouldn't think the lite would hurt them for a few days. I'd buy the smallest size they have though.

a few days should not be an issue but normally I would suggest against it based on age ...\\
