Human dental question

I was wondering if anyone had gotten veneers on their teeth? My teeth are horrible with big gaps in the front four teeth. I'm quite selfconscience about it and I've trying to get some info about them. For those of you who don't know what they are, they are enamel type things that they permenently attach to your teeth to fill in the gaps or make your teeth straighter. They look just like regular teeth and usually you wouldn't even know the difference. From what I've been told and have read, you have to be careful with what you eat (you don't want to break them especially since they are very expensive) and you may have to replace them every 10 to 15 years. If that the case, I may have to replace them 5 times by the time I'm 75 years old. That a lot..and a lot of money. My insurance doesn't cover this since it is consider cosmetic. So, does anyone have these or know someone who does? I don't know anyone who has had this done and am curious if it is worth the money.

I've known several people who have gotten veneers (especially to fix gaps between their front teeth and one who broke off half of one of his front teeth), and they are very happy with them. Unfortunately, veneers are more sensitive to staining, from things like coffee, tea and cigarettes. I had something like a veneer done on my front teeth, because I had a cavity between them and it was used to cover up the metallic filling. It lasted about 5 to 8 years, but my dentist recently replaced it because it was stained (I do drink a lot of coffee and smoke, so maybe it didn't last as long as it should have).

Luckily, my repair was covered by insurance, because the dentist not only replaced the veneer but also replaced an old mercury filling. I don't know if this helps you any, but this is what my experience has been.

I've known people with veneers and they usually need replacing during the recommended time period.

But most people who get them love the end result and would pay anything to fix the problem. With most people it's satisfaction over expense.

I've never heard of this, but it sounds like everyone here who has had this done is very happy with it.....I say go for it!!!!!!!

I have it, but I don't think my dentist did a very good job. One of them cracked in a few days, and after 4 years, they are obviously not natural teeth. I am the only person that I have ever known that has not been happy with theirs.

ohh Krazy Kat, that's so sad, can you get it fixed? how long ago was this?

I saw a thing like this done on T.V. you know, real life stories, that type of thing, and this one woman who had REALLY bad crooked teeth got it done and WHOA! MOMMA it did her smile wonders! and she was obvioulsy happy with it. I say go for it, you will be happy, but get someone good who has done it before.

Good luck!

Was that show called "A personal story" on the learning chanel? If so, I saw that episode and she got amazing results! I really want to do this, but it costs so much money. I did some research on the web and it ranges from $400 to $2000 per tooth! I need four teeth don't for sure...so you can imagine the cost! Plus, I'm worried that I won't like the results and they are permenent. I'm going to the dentist for the first time in 8 years (I know...I'm so bad about not going every year!) and will ask his opinion.

Thank you all for the replies!
