So there's a tom cat who lives in the Kampung (village area built from corregated iron etc) who is injured. He doesn't look very happy and isn't putting any weight at all on his right front paw. There's no obvious signs of injury, no blood or lumps so far as I can tell. I want to try and catch him (but need to be extra careful because he's likely to lash out and I have had no rabies jab). how you you guys go about setting up a trap? I have no carrier at present and am about to go away for four days, so unfortunately he'll have to wait four days till I can catch him and take him to the vet.
When I can take him, I'll get his leg seen to and maybe have him castrated aswell. My only real concerns are: if he's castrated and none of the other males in the area are (and there are many BIG toms), will he be more vulnerable to being beaten up?
Also, will I need to keep him in somewhere while his stitches heal? (Or do they not do any stitches in cats (as with horses if I remember correctly from when I had my pony done).

Help!

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice on trapping, but a lot of vets do not stitch males anymore. It heals faster and is more sanitary if it's left open (bacteria is not trapped and can drain out freely). I'm not sure how the veterinary practices are in Indonesia though.

if you have a trap he can most likely stay in it when you take him to get fixed (plus most traps are bigger than a regular carrier so it would be a little more comfortable).

once neutered, he will be less vulnerable to fighting and injury because he won't be motivated as much to fight back. he'll probably just walk away while the unfixed males fight with each other.

most vets don't use stitches and even if they do they will probably use dissolving stitches so he won't really need any recovery time. neutering is such a simple operation (compared to spaying), most male cats aren't even aware anything's been done!
