I went to a Zumba instructor workshop and got certified Sunday.

If you do not know what Zumba is, here is the website:

I have always loved to dance. I wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up. Puberty and an inherited chest ruled that out. So, I went from implementing and supporting million-dollar software systems to a Zumba instructor. Works for me.

Sunday, we were divided into groups for the afternoon and had to choreograph either a salsa or a merengue dance. My group did the Merengue and we won. From my dance/fitness connections, I knew another attendee who is a professional dancer/instructor. She announced to her group (I had a friend who was in her group) that she would choreograph the dance by herself and that they would win. She is a beautiful woman and she is a Latina dancer originally from Columbia. She thought that her complicated choreography would wow the judges. Wrong! When we won, the judges told everyone that our routine was easy to follow. It had all the required steps. There was the correct balance between repetition and variations. But the best part of our routine was that the judges could tell that we had fun teaching it and because of how happy the rest of the class was!

Guess what we won! A free month membership at the health club owned by the main instructors which is located 50+ miles from where I live. Words cannot express my gratitude.

Anyway, I cannot teach at my health club because I am a member but I can teach at their affiliated club nearby.

Wish me luck!
