My DH is nuts

He was at his grandmas today and she offered him a roastbeef sandwich. He said the lunch meat was like a week past it's sell date but he ate it anyway because he didn't want to hurt grandmas feelings. Also he said it didn't smell bad or anything. I'm sorry but I'd rather chance hurting someones feelings than get ill from bad food.

OMG, I would not have eaten that Hopefully he doesn't get sick!

I do think the meat products maufacturers err on the side of caution with their expiration dates, so a week out, if it smells ok and tastes ok should be OK........usually.

I think using common sense is in order in these situations and if Grandma's feelings can be spared in the process, it's all good.

DH said he felt a little queasy earlier but that was it. If it was to make him sick he'd be having issues by now.

I worked in food for over 15 years and the meat is good 1 week past the date it is marked.

Eeew, I don't think I would have eaten it. But then I am paranoid when it comes to expiration dates!

As long as it is not discolored or smells bad, it should be fine.

It was 1 week past its SELL BY date, not its USE BY date, is that right?

I would have eaten it too. If there was something wrong with it, grandma would get sick before him - I'd be checking it for her benefit as much as anything.

When I buy meat from the deli, they put the date you purchased it as the "sell by" date. Sarah's right, a "sell by" date is not a "use by" date.
