my dog passed away this morning at home. He has had pnuemonia for about 5 1/2 weeks but was getting better then got worse. took him to the vets last week so we knew it was soon. They gave us new meds and some anxiety meds (he had paralasis of the larynx) to help keep him relaxed and help him breath. he was still happy and wagging his tail, was eating and loved going otuside (we had to take him on a leash). he started getting a bit worse over the weekend so we knew the time was comming. last night we decided we had to take him in tonight after my hubby got home from work. before he went to work he told him he didn't have to fight anymore. we had already told our kids he was going to doggy heaven soon and tried to explain it. so today I told them that he was going tonight if they wanted to love on him and say goodbye. About an hour 1/2 after I said this he took his last breath. I was in the kitchen and he was in the hallway right at the kitchen door watching me. I believe he knew the choice was soooo hard for us to make and he wanted to go at home where he was most loved and felt the safest.

I miss him so much and as much as I know that he isn't scared anymore and is happy and healthy and running around I still want him back and miss him so much. He was born on Christmas Eve and I got him from an old boss so was working the day he was born and heard as all the new puppies came. we got him at 5 weeks old and he fit in my pouch of my jacket he was soooooo tiny!!!!!!!! He was our baby for 11 yrs 4 mo and 4 days from the day he was born. He had a great life and was very happy and loved. we watched him grow from the size of a kitten to a big hearty 105lb dog. I sure hope it gets easier in time as I know it will but I can't imagine it right now.

i'm so sorry. i lost my lurcher leo on valentines day this year. he was 14, in kidney failure and had almost lost complete use of his back legs.

i know in my heart that we did the right thing that day. i do miss him so much but i have found that thinking back to the good old days helps. i think of him as the energetic (when he was out on a walk) fool that he was. how he used to chase other dogs then run past them as if to say, 'call that running!' how he would steal the cat food time and time again. that dog was so devious when it came to food!

it is still very raw for you but each day will get a little easier.

for you and your family at this sad time.

RIP apollo. leo will look after you over the bridge.

I am so sorry for you loss, just remember that he is now at the Bridge, and he is healthy once again and free from pain.
