Has she been seen by a vet lately?

Our vet thinks Maisie is about 14 but she is an old 14 if you know what I mean. I`ve only had her a year but it`s obvious her sight and hearing has deteriorated. Really I`m just trying to keep her happy and comfortable until it`s her time as she seems to have had a rough life

She has to have a long acting steroid every so often to keep her well as she has bowel problems but she is happy even though she just wants to eat and sleep. She likes the heating on high and lays right under the radiator but she has lost a lot of condition so needs the extra warmth.

I think if she needed more invasive treatment to keep her well or was obviously unhappy I would let her go but as long as she`s happy and eating and not suffering I think she should be allowed to enjoy a bit more of the good life

So what is everyone feeding their seniors?? Auti likes canned food (right now its fancy feast , the most costly of the canned foods) and everyonce in a while she will nibble n dry. I do try to pick up a bag of kitten food when i can afford it. I have to avoid the canned tuna type cat food tho, as she eats it she just brings it back up, but she does like her people food too. Chicken and turkey are her favorite.
Last nite she jumped up and sat with her dad in his chair then took to leaps n jumped right off the chair onto the floor. silly cat..
As for the vet, if she so much as even hears a cat carrier, she is GONE and I do mean GONE!!! and she dont come out until the carrier is gone. The last time I had to take her to the vet, I brought the carrier in 2 days before her visit, she hid. and she is good at hiding, even tho theirs not many places to hid around here. I never did find her, had to cancel her visit. The one time I did manage to get her n put her in the carrier, she took the door off!!! (she's stronger than she looks)

Your Cat should get a Senior Panel some how. my almost 8 year old Cat just had one and she was terrble. She busted out of the Carrier and cut her Chin. They had to give her gas just to give her a Shot and blood tests.

Eukanuba Hairball for dry and Friskies canned only the ones without gluten though. This month I added in Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's soul dry with Eukanuba but I do not think I am going to buy that one again.

The thing about drinking from glasses/tumblers on the nightstand -
My cats have always had a thing about this, and I was told by a vet once that cats biology doesnt deal very well with being poisoned or contaminated. I.E. if a cat drinks bad water, it will get sick alot easier than say, a dog.
Cats like to be able to see that the water is clear all the way through, and they like to be able to see clean ripples and reflections on the surface. Some will even only drink from running water - cat fountains or dripping taps. Their instincts tell them running water cant have been sitting around or gotten stagnant. Apparently some cats can also taste the 'taint' in water from metal or plastic bowls, and prefer to drink from glass or ceramic bowls. Some cats also dont like to drink water thats been sitting near their food, since again, its their instincts that tell them that the water could have been contaminated by the food.
So thats why cats love to drink from glasses on your nightstand - they can see the water is clear and clean, they can see the reflections on the surface better high up where theres more light, and its far away from any food or litter spots!
I thought it was quite a lovely little thing to know
especially for those of us who's lives revolve around indulging our aging and beloved cats.

My Tigger is at LEAST 18 1/2 years old. We adopted her at 14 several years ago to "give her a last couple of good years."

LOL! She is a bit on the thin side, although nowhere near as thin as when we got her. Sometimes I think she forgets exactly where she is because she will meow until she can find us.

She gets grain-free dry, and premium canned food, including Tiki Cat, Artemis, Wellness, Merricks, Avoderm, and other foods.

Her fur is extremely shiny and she purrs constantly!!! Our vet was amazed at her fur!

In my opinion, it's all about the quality of food that goes in their body. (Well, plus genetics, LOL!)

I agree. I have a 13 year old that still runs around like a maniac at times. 13 is old but should be able to get around unless there are health problems like arthritus.

We have one that is 13 going on 14 now. He is the KING of the house and guards well. No senor problems with him as he jumps and plays with all the younger ones.

Starcrazy, that makes sense, we have a 3 yr old male that does that. he loves drinking out of the facuets and has been know to drag drink glasses so he can drink out of them.

I have a female ginger cat who is approximately 21 years old. I adopted her when she was approx 18 yeas old. She doesn't have any major health issues. She has a slightly opague eye probably caused by a sctratch before we got her which doesn't cause her any problems. She is a tiny cat with attitude who loves her food especially fish and her sleep. We love her so much.

My oldest, Hoover, lived to 21 with hyperthyroid problems the last three years. Right now, I have Missy, who is 17, Rusty and Steve, who are 13. I grow them pretty old around here!
