I don't know if anyone can help with this or if it even can be helped or should be, but my cat who is still under a year old, seems to have developed a fascination with beverages on desks or counter tops. He'll leave the cup or bottle be usually if it's empty but if it has any amount of liquid in it, first he may stick his paw in it, next maybe try to drink it but the main thing he seems to want to do is push it off the edge and onto the floor.

At first I would put my drink onto the floor or into my lap but now he follows it and seems to wait for me to set it down and either turn my back or leave the room so he can knock it over. This sounds horribly ridiculous for me to be asking for advice as I type this out but it does appear to be a problem. Not just because I have stains on my carpet in my room now but he's also broken glasses in the kitchen and bathroom.

If the only answers there are are "leave kitty locked away when you have a drink, leave kitty locked away period, don't take so much liquid if you can't finish it all in one gulp, use a sippy cup or bottle with a lid etc." then perhaps you could share what you think the best carpet cleaner is out there cause the one I have doesn't seem to do anything.

Sorry, I know this sounds ridiculous.

My cat does this! DH and I mostly drink water, so as long as we're not ill, kitty is free to lap at our water while we get a fresh glass for ourselves. She goes after our water every night. Go figure. If we are not drinking water -- say wine or soda -- we just take extra care to make sure she can't get at the glasses. This usually means drink first then eat, because the second you put the glass down, she wants to at least sniff it.

Oh, yes, she also has a penchant for knocking over glasses too. It's just a matter of making sure there's nothing around for her to get. DH and I have a system where, if we need to put the cup down, we hand it to whomever is farthest from the cat. He'll put it on his side of the table if she is next to me and vice versa. If she moves towards the other person, we switch.

I use one of those big bottomed, covered cups. After a while they lost interest when they couldn't get to what was in there. I started that when Fred started drinking my White Russians and falling over when he had enough. I only let him do it twice, I didn't think he would like the alcohol. He just got a few sips, but I guess that was all it took.
It does not sound at all ridiculous, cats will just do the darndest things to make you feel silly.

That's a good idea! I didn't think of using one of those big bottomed covered cups! I need to try that! Thanks!

Oh and mine will try and drink everything. I have learned to keep the cup close to me on an end table for a reason. She will try to get up on the end table though and drink from it, but I have learned to put my hand on her back, and to pet her for a bit, and she will sit back down on my lap. She won't go near it then. She knows that's my way of saying no. But the only way she can get up there is if she jumps, which she won't do when I'm around, or when she sits on my lap. But it's kind of a headache having to move the cup if I go anywhere else, because I don't have any other systems in place yet lol!

Well, obviously the simplest solution is to avoid leaving drinks/glasses around...........
. Maia definitely has a fascination/attraction to my drinking glasses. To be honest. the way I avoid more mischievous behavior when it comes to this, I fill a juice glass with water every night by the bed side. Although she is curious of every glass/drink I put down, she leaves them alone as long as she has her secondary water supply!

My boy cat Loki (7mths) does this too but he never drinks the contents he just likes to knock over the glasses/ bottles. i tend just to run around after everyone in the hose saying "put your cup away, watch out the cat!"...lol.

I was painting yesterday and found him drinking my brush water! he is ok, don't think he drunk enough.
