Heidi, your comment about the economy in Colorado points up what I've been thinking: the economy really isn't as bad as it's made out to be. I've been through recessions before and so far, this is nothing. Sure, in some parts of the country, yes, but it's really not that bad here either. So, this artificial economic stimulus with the government sending us money they don't have just aggravates the main problems the economy is having: the declining value of the dollar and the drag of national debt on the credit markets. It's like giving a candy bar to a diabetic in insulin shock. There's a short-term boost but the sugar crash makes it worse in the end. $600 isn't going to make one bit of difference in where I stand financially at year's end and I suspect in most other cases it won't either. But taken in total, it's fiscal irresponsibility by a government so deep in debt that it's mind-boggling.
