Honestly I only listen to Rush on the way home and back from lunch, so about a total of 20 minutes a day. However, since I listen to the same station that carries him in the morning and afternoon, they did talk about this on the morning show in the following days. You get a totally different message reading what he said and hearing what he said. What doesn't come across in print is that he was giggling like a school girl when he said it. It wasn't serious, and frankly the only people who are going to say that he should be held accountable hate everything he stands for to begin with.
Once again, considering there was a group who called themselves "Recreate '68" whose entire purpose was to start riots that applied for a "protest permit", and considering the "Pro-Life" crowd said they would sue Denver if they were denied a protest permit, and considering you're gonna have the total fringe freaks (I mean PeTA, ELF, ALF, Code Pink (OK, the more radical anti-war activists, but I'm not familiar with them) etc.) who will "protest" (i.e. riot) regardless of whether they have a permit and regardless of where the protesters are allowed by Denver...how can you possibly say Rush should be accountable? OK, sure, if the riots are started by (as Renovia so eloquently put it) middle-age, crotchety old men, then he can be held to task. But I'm pretty sure that the riots that will happen in Denver (and I'm pretty sure they WILL happen, and I live here!) won't be because of Rush Limbaugh.
The G8 summit was held here in Denver a few years back, and while the riots weren't widespread they did happen. Rush didn't call for those. It was those fringe freaks who just want to get press that started them. They didn't and still don't get it that pics of them starting fires and breaking windows and getting arrested doesn't expand their cause, because no one remembers what cause they were being idiots for...just that they were being idiots. The DNC is going to be a bigger newsmaker on the US scene, especially this year, so it's only logical that the idiots will be back in force.
