She is letting 2 of the three nurse but I don't think she is interested in keeping them clean really. She is worn out. Young mother with her first litter. So how often do I need to take a warm cotton ball and wipe their bottoms? Also the one I dropper feed (he will not suck a bottle yet) I leave with her in between feedings. Is this best? I just came in to check on her which my vet said to minimize because she is semi feral....she will allow contact but she is NOT at all used to being in a house. Anyway when I came in to check on my runt he was up under the backside of her body and I literally could not find him til I heard his low yelps.....Should I just keep him on a heating pad with me or leave him with his siblings? He drank 1 ml three hours ago the 1.5 ml about an hour ago. He seemed a bit more interested second time around. Ideally how much should he be drinking. I have let him judge it thus far. When he becomes disinterested I don't push it.

If she's laying on him and not nursing him, that might not be a good sign. There could be something wrong with him that she picks up on that you don't. I don't have much experience, but if the mother is rejecting the kitten perhaps it is best to take him, keep him on a heating pad, hand raise, and hope he's okay in the end. Here is a good link to read http://www.kittenrescue.org/handbook.htm , and I'm sure someone with more information/experience will come along shortly to help!

If he's the runt (as you say) and not as hardy as the others, she may well do him harm. I would try to give him supervised visits with the mom cat, but if she is not tending to him I probably would hand rear him. There are some folks here with tons of experience with this sort of thing and I'm sure they'll be along with some good advice soon.

I am working on it....=)
Hence I am still up at 2:38 and not sleeping....
He worries me....
He needs about 24 ml a day first week....
Roughly....
Seeing as I don't even know if the lil guy is 3 oz.
I'd be happy with 20 ml tomorrow...
Would be better than today was....
3 ml every three is what I shoot for because he is a wee bit more eager then if I bother him every 2....
She is laying on him....
He nursed once today...
She pushes him away....
And he gets lost......
bleh...
So he is in my bathroom on a heating pad, warm and curled up on my tshirt with a moose for company......
He is a little stuffed chocolate one.....
I am feeding him KMR and hoping....=)

His mom was tested yesterday for FeLV and FIV and was negative.....
My vet said he looked like the runt.....
He is meowing now....=)
His mom is young though....
Stray....
So she just may not of had anything going for her during her pregnancy.....
He may be ill....
I am hoping he will be my comeback kid though....
I am gonna go see what the lil guy needs.......

Well we ate a little....
Poo'd too....
I was happy with poo....

Too funny the things that make you happy.....
He wants someone live to be with and I can't sleep with him....
The hot water bottle isn't cutting it for him....
So his mom purred like a car when I brought him in and he slipped in between him so I am going to leave him warm with his siblings for the night and get three hours sleep....
We'll resume dropper duty in the a.m. but I am going to try to keep him with her....
He was searching out a nipple and she was lifting her leg coaxing him to.....
So I hope it just works out.....
Course my cat has been up and down with me through all this....
He is my boy.
I needta get an icon of him....
He is my angel kitty...

Thanks for listening you guys.....
Sometimes it's nice just having someone to talk to about cat lady things....

Jack went across the rainbow bridge tonight......
We lost him.
He didn't die without a fight though.
God must have big plans for him.
I have even rushed a snugglekittie for him......
He'll be in Heaven though......
He won't need it there......

I think he just was doomed from the get go....
He would never nurse....
I fed him KMR around the clock as I was supposed to...
His skin was so thin it was transparent....
You could feel the lil guys bones...
He has half the size of the other two at birth.....
So I was prepared to bottle feed.....
He did ok yesterday and had no interest in eating today.....
Even though I had him wrapped up in a rice sock with a washcloth on my chest his lil mouth was cold.....
Food was of no interest....
I just somehow think it wasn't meant to be even though I tried...
I rush ordered a snugglekittie so he'd not be lonely......
Mom was bleh with him....
But I wasn't..
I loved him...
and rubbed his little body...
and kissed his small head....
But he never gained....
It just was upsetting.....
I understand it happens.....
But we all cried.......
You never want to lose your baby and I was attached within the first minute.....
He had me at meow......
I wish he was still here.....
But he is in heaven.....
I'll see him happy at that rainbow bridge...
Jack will be there....

I'm sorry that you lost him, but you know he loved you to the last second for taking care of him.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Sweet that his Momma let him snuggle and nurse for a little bit. His fur Momma and you both did your best. He knew love for his short time here on earth.

Rest in peace, baby Jack!

I bought a house about 2 years ago....
It is 50 years old...
I am only the second owner so my plants and lots of things around my house have history....
I have a peony bush that was her great grandmother's.....
It is well over 100 years old....
So Jack is buried under some beautiful pink flowers that smell wonderful.....
And after next week he will have his own small cross which we are going to make this weekend.....
So he has a special place for his lil frail body but has an even better place for his soul.
A pooh on the city if I am not supposed to bury him there because he is so tiny no one will ever know...
But I will...
I'll know he's close....
That's all I need to know....

I am so sorry that little Jack lost his fight against whatever was ailing him.
Momma cat must have somehow known all along, and was trying to end his suffering. You both did what you could for him, and he knew that he was loved.

RIP little Jack.
