I was on my way home Monday night and I rear ended this lady, I feel horrible for a lot of reasons:

1: this is my first accident EVER!!! and my car is the one with all the damage.

2: I had my infant daughter in the car as well as 2 of my cats, they could have been seriously injured or killed! YIKES!!

3: Luckily the police were not involved, so I did not get a ticket, but insurance may not cover the accident.

I really feel the worst about the poor kitties getting rolled in the car, thank god for cat carriers or it could have been much worse. Am I just feeling oversensitive because it is my first accident? I am afraid to drive anywhere now because I am so nervous something will happen again.

Yes, you always feel shaken after even a minor accident, partly over what happened and partly over knowing how much worse it could have been.

Personally, I use that feeling -- I bear it in mind and allow it to keep me rational in how I drive. It's good to have that to remind yourself of how much you're risking just to get somewhere a minute or two sooner, y'know?

I'm so glad you weren't hurt! And I hope it's both your first accident and your last.

Far far away!
Of course it's nerve racking when there is a car accident, even if it wasn't too bad. I get really nervous to drive even if I come close to having an accident. Glad to hear everyone's ok.

Its ok to feel that way. We got rear ended March 27th and it made me scared to go in the Truck. We have to have the bumber fixed and we got some money for pain. The Chp came and took a report. My Husband rear ended someone once and her Car was messed up bad. She was ok though but our rates went up.

*hugs*

It's called an "accident" because that's just what it was. And just because you had one, doesn't mean you will have another, and if you do, they most certainly won't be frequent.

I remember my first car accident. I had borrowed one of the company vehicles to attend a wedding of a co-worker. On the way back to work on Monday morning, I stopped at 7-11 for a cup of coffee. I placed it in that sticky cup holder on the dash board. As I was turning left the cup holder came unstuck and the coffee was on it's way towards me. I took my right hand off the wheel and went to bat the cup towards the right so it didn't land on my lap. My left hand was still on the wheel making the left turn.

Well, when the right hand goes right, the left hand tends to follow suit and go in the other direction like you were flashing someone!

As a result I ended up "parallel parking" between 2 cars stopped at the light going in the other direction on the street that I had turned on to.

There was minimal damage to the other cars, and only about $1000 damage to the company truck, a dent and some paint.

The guy who I came nose to nose with got out of his car and said:

"I bent down to pick up a tape that had fallen and when I sat up there you were!"

I dreaded telling my boss what happened

Usually the shipper would have taken the truck into Autopac to be assessed, but my boss insisted that I was going to do it. I didn't want to, but he made me take it.

He told me that if I didn't get behind the wheel then, I never would, and the reason I was going to take it in myself was to give me back the confidence I needed to keep driving.

That was the best thing he could have done for me.

So don't give up. Get in your car tomorrow and even if it's only to drive around the block, do it!

Rear ending someone stinks but it definitely could have been worse. At least everyone is ok. I remember the first accident I got into a 3 years ago. Some lady was crossing 3 lanes of traffic and while I going into the turning lane she didn't see me and ran into the side of my car. She was completely at fault but her SUV against my then Toyota camry, you can imagine whose vehicle had the most damage.
No injuries though....just a MAJOR inconvenience.

Anyhow I remember feeling a bit paranoid about driving after that but I soon got over it. Just keep yourself alert and always be aware of what's going on around you and you'll be fine.

Under the cats, mostly.
Aaaw hun I'm so glad everyone's ok! for you. Of course you're shaken up, but you mustn't be afraid to drive again - accidents can happen even to the most careful driver - just use that wariness to keep a good check on how you're driving in future
It could have been much, much worse. If you'd been speeding, then someone could have been injured. Big
for you all.

It's funny, but the first accident I had I backed into a car when I was backing out of a parking space. Personally, I don't think you should ever take for granted that a person backing out is going to see you and wait, but I know I was in the wrong. Anyway, I wasn't really nervous about driving after that. But the first time I was rear ended, and it wasn't even a real bad one, I was nervous for weeks and kept checking the rear view mirror and freaking out if I thought the person behind me was coming at me too fast. That feeling does pass.

Glad to hear everyone is OK.... I have thought many times about just letting Nala lay on the seat next to me, but then I think what would happen if I got in an accident... so just as you said thankgod for carriers....
