OK, say you're a real estate agent, and you're previewing a new listing with the people in your office. At one house, the owners aren't home, although their cat is.

When you look in the bathroom, the cat is sitting on the toilet, next to the tub. She looks up expectantly, meows, etc. The other agents say, "What does that silly cat want?"

What DID she want?

a drink from the tap! (or in my Lily's case, to be let out of the bathroom window, our bathroom is downstairs and the window is her private door)

She wants you to turn the water on in the tub, so she can have a drink. Don't expect her to turn it off when she's done, either.

Exactly right! The rest of the agents, who obviously didn't have cats, were totally puzzled at what he wanted, and totally amazed that I knew, and I was correct! Of course, she first wanted to drink from it, then splash it around, then shake her paw.

I'm voting for this one. She knows the humans she lives with are too dumb to figure it out, so she makes them feel better by pretending she wanted a drink all along. But she was hoping these new humans walking into the house might catch on, since they're real estate agents!

this is what mine would've wanted... assuming they could open the bathroom door, which i keep closed.
i've never offered the tub water to them as a plaything, so they don't know to ask for it!
