Hello everyone. I am going to be getting my first kitty in a couple months (early May) and I am trying to figure out what age, sex, etc. to get. I know that if you spay or neuter kittens at a young age, you almost certainly won't have spraying problems. I know that un-neutered adult males spray. But that's about all I know.

So, I have a couple questions:
~Do females ever spray? (I don't think they do, but just making sure.)
~How likely is it that neutering an adult male will stop him from spraying?

Any other factoids in general would be very much appreciated. What is the oldest age that you can neuter a cat and still have it be most effective? (i.e. before puberty) Thanks for your help. Just trying to make an informed decision about what kind of cat is right for me right now.

Cats, female or male can spray. It lessens the likelyhood of them doing it by altering them before or at 6 months. If you have an older cat and get them altered, if they didn't spray before, they shouldn't start. If they were sprayers, then altering usually stops the behavior, but it's still a territorial thing. If there's other cats in or around the house, they can still spray to mark thier territory.
