If kittens are given away in pairs (a member here is adopting two) can they be given away sooner (like 8-9 weeks old?) My momma cat Sophie is pretty much sick of them now that they are 6 weeks old. She is also in heat and trys desperatly to escape every day. Right now they are perfect in the litter box and eat dry kibble. I know ya'll are probably going to tell me to still wait till 10-12 weeks but I was asking just in case.

well, if the kits are weaned... can't she be spayed? that would solve the annoyance issue!

It would be better if you could wait a few more weeks - at least till 10 weeks. But if its a member on this board who has other cats, I suppose adopting 2 kittens from the same litter at 8-9 weeks would be ok

When is mom scheduled to be spayed if she's back in heat?

I'm going to set an appointment today. The member doesn't have other cats just a dog.

On average how long do you need to wait after birth to spay the mom? and how long will it be before she goes into heat again? Lord I have a momma and I was a vet tech forever but it was forever ago...and all my cats have been male.....and I didn't want mine to go bonkers on me because my nuetered male is already having a cow to get in there but I don't know her FeLV/FIP status. I will test her as soon as she gets a bit more settled with her kittens and in my house. She isn't used to all the interaction as it is...so separation is what I am doing but a heat cycle would make life grand....umm not!

Some females can go back into heat within days of delivering - others will be nice enough to wait months
I'd talk with your vet on when he/she feels that its a good time. Seems most will wait till the kittens are about 8 weeks old.
