peeing cat...again

About a year ago my cat (may/june 2007) had crystals in her urine and after getting it taken care of it took awhile to transition her back into a box and I had to change litter a few times to get her back "in her groove."

Then we got new kittens and she started peeing again and a trip to the vet uncovered no health problems, just an upset kitty (this was Sept of 2007) and eventually she got better.

Now she's peeing on the litter mat, but if I take the mat out, she stops. Also, I had her at my parents all weekend, where they have no mat and there were no accidents. Is it worth a trip to the vet (where I have a feeling the results will be clear)?

She has no other symptoms besides just going on the mat. What can I do to contain the litter? I was thinking of finding a huge cardboard box for the area and cutting it down...

By litter mat, you mean one of those doormat style things they step on after leaving the box, right? If that's it, I would just remove the mat and get a box with high sides - they're pretty easy to find. She probably just doesn't like a smell or something associated with the mat.

yep. she has a covered booda dome right now that barely fits in the area.

do high sides boxes really reduce litter tracking?

I've tried two different mats. one is a plain, cheap rubber/plastic mat like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=3052369

the other is kind of a grid, on top of a container, this kind of idea, but not exactly like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2755268

hmm...I'll have to measure it out. The regular booda done (the one w/o stairs) barely fits in the area so I'd have to make sure it fits, although if I don't have a mat in front I can have it be longer of course. I suspect they would jump out onto the toilet and trach litter onto there, but it probably wouldn't be as bad.

I used tidy cats blue for litter, are there better clay scoopables for tracking?

I think I might try costco brand again soon.

Luna pees on mats too. Both of those above^ and sometimes NOT on mats (around box). She has this amazing skill to pee UNDER the mat but not on it...?! I have taken her to the vet several times and no problems. And I have tried everything to get her to stop. Now I just let her pee on the mat, then clean it etc. etc. The vet said that she may be doing it b/c of past abuse. I'm sorry that I have no solution for you, but just letting you know that someone else can sympathize. =P If u find anything that works, please let me know. Good luck!

p.s. the first litterbox I got Luna was the Booda Dome and she did it FAR more often when she had that one. Now she has an uncovered one...*sigh*

well, she hasn't peed anywhere since because I haven't had the mat down. She peed UNDER the mat too!!! I have no idea how she did it; I think she may have peed next to it, but the tile tilted the liquid under or something. Now I'm just thinking of a litter that doesn't track much instead. I might try feline pine scoopable.

Now she finally did pee in front of the box, on the tile. There was some litter kicked out there though.

do you think this is worth a trip to the vet, or should I keep on with my plight for the perfect box/litter combo?

it had been about a week since she had peed anywhere other than the box as far as I know.
